MRS. SUSAN C. SAKURDA

Susan Carol Sakurada of Winnemucca unexpectedly departed this earth on Nov. 20.

She was born in Long Beach, Calif, on Sept. 5, 1957. Her mother, Ireta Sullivan preceding her in passing in 1987.

Mourning the loss, fathers Terrol Rush living in Oregon, and Jerry Sullivan of southern California; her husband Donn Sakurada, children Keaton, Jarid and wife Bobbie, Ireta, and Patty.

Her grandchildren Brett, Riley, Wyatte, Glenn, Cameron, and Ashton were very close to their grandmother. Susan's brothers Don Rush, Mike Sullivan, and sister Tina Sullivan-Myers and their families knew Susan to be a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, daughter and friend.

In addition to all she did for her family and community, her avocation of decorating eggs gained her a reputation of one of the best, with a milestone being reached in having her work, "Once In A Blue Moon Treasures" displayed at the White House in Washington D.C. and national sales.

Her memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. on Dec. 5. The location will be the L.D.S. Stake Center, 111 Mc Arthur Ave, Winnemucca, 89445. In lieu of flowers Susan supported two charities in the Winnemucca community. Organizing the charities is Sunny Johnson. She can be contacted at (775)623-0179.

MR. RUBEN SANTA CRUZ SALGADO

Ruben Santa Cruz Salgado was born Dec. 30,1957, in Naples, Italy to Ruben Salgado Sr. and Natalia Santa Cruz, and went home to his Lord and Savior on Monday Oct. 28, 2007, at the age of 49.

He is survived by his loving soul-mate and wife of nine years, Emily Salgado, his three beautiful children Nico, Ashley and Victoria, his parents Ruben and Natalia Salgado of San Tee, Calif., three sisters Lily Poe of Oregon, Christine Patenode of California and Terri Wourms of California. Ruben was a dedicated husband, father, brother, son and friend. He was always willing to help others and open his door to those in need. He loved his Lord with all his heart and spread His word with joy and passion. He will be missed and remembered always.

A Memorial service for Ilene Saunders, born June 5, 1925, and passed away Aug. 13, 2008, will be held on Oct. 9, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Winnemucca Cemetery. We invite all who knew Ilene to come and join us as we remember her and give thanks for her life among us.

MR. DAVID SCHOENECKER

David B. Schoenecker, 48, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2007, as he was being airlifted to Reno. David is survived by his father, Charles, 83, and siblings Michael, Robert, Lori, Richard Harris, Diane Court and Darlene White. Memorial services will be held for David on Tuesday, June 12, 2007. The family would like to express their gratitude to those who attended.

MR. DARO BRAD SCHUNKE

Daro Brad Schunke passed away at age 63 at Renown Regional Medical Center on May 20,2010.

Daro was born to Herman Schunke & Dorothy See Schunke of Winnemucca on Sept. 26, 1946, Daro was the first of two children. He was a lifetime resident. Daro attended school in Winnemucca. He graduated from Humboldt County High School in 1965.

Daro was in the National Guard. In his lifetime he had many callings, he worked for Stander Oil Co, Ramosco Jewelry, he worked for a time in the construction trade at the Valmy Power Plant & Michael Clay Corporation. Daro also was the owner of Daro's Jewelry & Clock Repair. At present time he was employed in the trade of underground mining with Barrick Gold Turquoise Ridge JV Mine.

Daro was a friend to all, he wore a smile every day of his life. He never met an animal he did not love, he was an avid horseman, and loved teaching kids how to ride. He never missed a chance to spend time in the great outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Daro is survived by his loving wife Susan, beloved sister Robyn Wolverton, brother in law Harold Wolverton, nephew Zachary Wolverton, uncle and aunt George & Jean See, and son's of the heart Gavin & Hunter Quilici, and Tyler Schoening, and his four-legged family.

Services were held on Wednesday, May 26,2010, at the East Hall of the Winnemucca Convention Center. He will be missed by all.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Albertson Funeral Home.

MR. HUGO SCHWINNING

Hugo Schwinning, 83, a WW2 Veteran, passed on June 2 at 9:30 a.m. at his home with his family.

A private service will be held at the family home in Wrightwood, Calif, on Saturday, 7th of June at 2 p.m. He is survived by his son Graham Schwinning of Lancaster, Calif., and daughter of Battle Mountain.

MR. DEAN SCOTT

The good lord came, took Dean's hand and brought him home with him on June 18, 2008. after a long illness.

Dean moved to Winnemucca in 1983, this is where he made his home. He worked as a cook, until he got ill and could not work anymore.

While in Winnemucca Dean met a lot of friends, who he thought the world of. He would have given you the shirt off his back, or his very last dollar, if it was needed to help you out. Dean was a very sweet and giving person.

Dean's family, friends, pets and church meant the world to him. Dean re-found God about five years ago and was baptized. He loved the church he attended and liked to help at any event that the church put on. Dean had a second family at the church who he loved very much.

Dean loved animals. He always had some kind of animal, mostly dogs. They were his kids. Since Dean never married and did not have any kids, he made his pets his kids and spoiled them very much.

Dean is now in Heaven with his grandparents Claude and Vivian Scott, some of his aunts and uncles, and now can resume what he could not when he was ill.

Dean's family includes parents Don and Pat Scott of Winnemucca, brothers Wayne Kranz and his wife Patricia from California, Calvin Kranz and his wife Dixie of California, Tony Scott and his girlfriend Paula of Winnemucca, Claude Scott and his girlfriend Allyson of Winnemucca, sisters Elaine Hendrix and husband Danny of Winnemucca, Tina Camou and husband Martin of Winnemucca, Penny Ball and husband John of California, Sherry Hernandez and husband Jose of Winnemucca, and his loyal friend Bill Delong. Dean had many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews who all of us loved Dean and we will miss him dearly.

There will be a memorial on July 1, 2008, for all of those who would like to attend. The memorial will be at 5 p.m. at the First Baptist Church located at 515 Garrison St. in Winnemucca.

MR. WARREN J. SCOTT

April 4, 1926 — March 29, 2010
Long time Winnemucca resident Warren J. Scott passed away peacefully on March 29, 2010.

As a businessman, rancher, banker and public servant, Mr. Scott dedicated his life to community service and education. He managed banks in Elko, Wells and Winnemucca. He specialized in agricultural loans and used his position in the bank to serve the community. Mr. Scott served on the Humboldt County Regional Planning Commission and Humboldt County School Board, was a member of and served a term as President of the Nevada State Schoo! Boards Association and served a term as mayor of Winnemucca. He was also active in developing community colleges in Northern Nevada.

Mr. Scott was a life-long student. He enjoyed learning about and discussing philosophy, politics, history, world religions, geology and ancient cultures. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed prospecting in the mountains of Northern Nevada and scuba diving around the world.

Mr. Scott was predeceased by his brothers Stanley and James. and son Gregory.

He is survived by his daughter Valerie Lumley and her husband Ron, his daughter Lynda Shabram and her husband Paul and his grandchildren, Gregory, Megan, Shannon, Tessa, Colin, Chelsea, and Alyson.

Memorial services were held at Albertson Funeral Home in Winnemucca on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at 2 p.m. Private graveside services were held following the memorial service.

MR. SAMUEL A. SEALS

Samuel A. Seals passed away in Midas on Oct. 7, 2009.

He is survived by his wife Edythe Seals, sons Samuel (Butch) and Allen, daughter-in-law Susan. Grandkids, Summer, Michelle, Christine, Mckenna, Laurel. Great grandkids Tori, Darin, Thomas, Haylee, Blake. And numerous family and friends.

Sam was born Aug. 6, 1953, in Oklahoma.

Services will be held at Grass Valley Baptist Church at 1 p.m., with a gathering at the Seals home to follow. Also in lieu of flowers please send donations to the Grass Valley Baptist Church benevolence fund.

MR. JUSTIN A. SHARP

Justin Alan Sharp, born Feb. 23, 1988, in Greenville, Texas, was taken from us on Aug. 29, 2007, in Winnemucca.

Justin was happiest talking on the phone to his girl friends. He was the sparkle in his family’s eyes.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother Lois Santos McErquiaga and grandfather Joe McErquiaga and his paternal grandparents.

Justin is survived by his mother, Raelene McErquiaga Brown, two brothers Alan Bolek and Tucker Sharp both of Reno, father Mark Sharp, nephew AJ Sharp, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

A memorial will be held in memory of his life on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, at 244 W. Second St. in Winnemucca, at 5 p.m. Friends and family are welcomed to attend. Pot luck following service. Justin will be laid to rest at a later date.

Special thanks to Detective Kathy Davis for caring and helping to bring Justin home to his family. “You will always have a place in our heart.”

MR. DAN SHAW

In loving memory of our husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Dan was born in 1977 to Thomas C. and Nancy K. Shaw (Paslay) in Kremmling, Colo.

Dan attended high school at Lowry, where he participated in football, wrestling and track. He attended college at Mayville State University, where he played football and studied education.

While attending college Dan met his future wife, Mara Zluticky. Dan and Mara were married on Aug. 4, 2000, in Hilsboro, N.D. Later they moved to Reno and eventually settled in Winnemucca to raise a family.

He is survived by his wife Mara and two daughters, Michaela, and Tatum, his parents Tom and Nancy Shaw, and his sister Melissa, her husband Denny Ellett, their children Griffin, 8, Nina, 3, and Cole, 1, all of Winnemucca. He is also survived by long-time best friends Bill Cassinelli and Brad Bauman of Winnemucca, and his maternal grandmother Wynell Paslay of Grants, N.M., aunt Paula Wolfe of Kansas City, Kan., and great aunt Georgia Lou Aker of Fresno, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents James A. Paslay, Thomas B. and Pauline Shaw and his father-in-law Michael Zluticky.

The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 6, at the Winnemucca Convention Center, with a reception to follow.

Arrangements are under the direction of Albertson Funeral Home of Winnemucca.

MR. THOMAS C. SHAW

Thomas Charles Shaw was born Dec. 13, 1947, in.Albuquerque, N.M., to Thomas Benjamin Shaw and Pauline Marie (Stevenson) Shaw.

Tom graduated from Cuba High School in Cuba, N.M., and went on to attend Western College in Silver City, N.M. On March 10, 1969, he was married to Nancy Paslay at Silver City, N.M. To this union was born two children; a daughter, Melissa, and a son. Daniel.

Tom worked in constructior and mining in Silver City, N.M.: Clifton, Ariz.; Penrose, Colo.; Kremmiing, Colo.; Grants, N.M.; West Jordan, Utah, and Winnemucca.

Tom was baptized into the Christian faith on April 6, 1958, at the Community Methodist Church in Mountainair, N.M. He confirmed his Christian faith on June 2, 1985, at Christ Lutheran Church in Murray, Utah. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Winnemucca at the time of his death. Tom died in the early morning hours on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Pauline, and his son, Daniel.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Nancy, his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Denny ESlett and their children Griffin, Nina and Cole of Winnemucca, his sister and brother-in-law Paul and Bill Wolfe, his daugbter-in-iaw, Mara Shaw and her two children Michaela and Tatum of Naytahwaush, Minn. Funeral Service for Tom will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2009. at Zion Lutheran Church in Winnemucca.

MR. ALLEN D. SHERBURN

Allen D. Sherburn was born July 24, 1927, in Winnemucca and died Sept. 19, 2009, in Boise, Idaho.

Memorial services will be held Sept. 26, 2009, in Denio at lp.m. in the Community Hall.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to an account at Sterling Bank in Burns, Ore.

MR. DONNIE L. SMART

Donnie Lorenzo Smart, 45 years old, entered into rest on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Renown Medical Center in Reno.

He was born in Winnemucca on March 8, 1964, to Eleanor Crutcher and Leon Smart. He lived most of his life in McDermitt.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents George Smart Jr. and Lucy Hardin, maternal grandfather Irvine Crutcher, father Leon Smart and brother Leander Smart. Donnie is survived by grandmother Evelyn Crutcher, mother Eleanor Crutcher, bother Whitney Smart, sister Yolanda Garcia, son Tildon Smart, daughter Courtney Fetterli, nephew Lancisco Smart, niece Leandra Garcia, grandchildren Duane, Payton, Akota, and Stevye Smart, Zane and Hazen Fetterly.

A lunch was held, on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Tribal gym, followed by the, funeral service at 1 p.m. and Interment at the Fort McDermitt Sho-Pai Cemetery.

MR. LEO SNAPP

Leo Snapp, 76, of Winnemucca, left this earth peacefully surrounded by his family on June 6, 2009, at Renown Medical Center in Reno. Born Aug. 18, 1932, in Humboldt County, he was the son of the late Herbert and Lena (Hardy) Snapp.

Leo lived most of his life in Winnemucca where he retired from being a mining hoist engineer. Leo enjoyed the outdoors, animals, music and was an avid aviation fan.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by daughter; Terrie Wasson; brother Delmar Snapp; son-in-law, Dale Tackett and his beloved grandfather Pete Snapp. He is survived by daughter Judith Kontny and her husband Steve, son Kurt Snapp. granddaughter, Jordan Tackett; sisters, Lorrain Dyer; Roma Snapp, Delora Snapp, Helen Snapp; brothers, Daniel Snapp, Rodney Snapp; former wife Sylvia Missouri and a host of other relatives and friends.

At his request no formal services will be held. A private celebration of Leo's life will be held at the family's discretion.

Albertson Funeral Home is serving the Snapp Family. Thank you to all who showed compassion and gave encouragement during this great time of need.

He would like us to remember that laughter is the best medicine.

MR. KENNETH W. SOLOMON

Jan. 18, 1917 - Jan. 2, 2009 Kenneth William Solomon passed away in his home with his family at his side. He is survived by four daughters: Carolyn Bell, Patricia Glasgow, Susan Lucas of Winnemucca and Joanne Ramsperger (John) of Kerrville, Texas; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grand children and 23 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cora Solomon, two step-sons, one foster daughter, a granddaughter, three sons-in-law, his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Kenneth served in the Army during World War II, stationed in Japan. He farmed in Orovada for 13 years before moving to Winnemucca to work for the city sewer department where he retired in 1985. He always enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He will be missed by family and friends. A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Fifth and Garrison. A luncheon will follow the service in the Fellow-ship Hall. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to your favorite charity.

MS ELIZABETH A. SOLORZANO

Bethie was born on March 15, 1956, in Torrance, Calif. Her colorful spirit was set free in Winnemucca on March 18, 2008, after battling lung cancer. Bethie was blessed to have the love of her life Marty and her loving, devoted sister Juanita by her side. She was preceded in death by her father Armando Solorzano and mother Glenda Cross-Dvorak.

Surviving is her long-time partner Marty Gutierrez, her son and his wife Armando and Shawna Solorzano of Reno. Daughter Jessica Zigmond of New Mexico. Sisters Juanita (Victor) Quintero of Winnemucca, Mary (Joe) Boyce Santa Rosa, Calif. Brothers Armando (Lisa) Solorzano Petaluma, Calif., Michael (Debbie) Solorzano San Rafael. Calif., Matthew (Karen) Kizer Novato, Calif., and Mark Solorzano Bend, Ore. Grandsons Deontrey and Jalen Solorzano. Aunts Kay Price and Susan Cross of Las Vegas. Uncle and aunt Gary and Loretta Cross of Alaska, best friend of 40 years Julie Cadjew of Reno. 15 nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews.


Bethie loved and was loved by everyone she met. She was an avid reader who lived life on her own terms. Her family and friends will always miss her beautiful smile, quirky wit and survivor spirit. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Bethie's caregivers Mary, Kathy, Lyn and Jennifer from the Volunteer Hospice of Winnemucca. A private family service is planned for a later date.

MRS. LOUISE H. SPARKMAN

Louise H. Sparkman, "Weezie," was born in Winnemucca on June 17, 1946, and passed away at home surrounded by her family on July 5,2009.

Weezie was proud to be a native Nevadan and proud of her Basque and Native American heritage.

She was one of 10 children and family gatherings have always been a source of joy and great food. Louise's family looked forward to her tasty enchiladas made without using a recipe, a talent she learned from her mother and that she passed on to other family members.

Louise and her husband Jim loved to travel. They went to such places as Mexico, Canada and Hawaii always taking along the grandchildren.

She loved the oudoors where she could sit and enjoy her cup of coffee in the morning. She also loved her 29 years of working at Lowry High School and Winnemucca Junior High in the cafeteria where she touched the lives of countless children spanning several generations and is remembered fondly by them.

Louise is survived by her husband Jim, her daughters Rita Dillon and JoLyn Laney (Tom), brothers and sisters, Hank Peluaga (Lola), Isabel Baratcart (Claudio), Katherine Yraguen (Celso), MaryAnn Echeverria (Dennis), Clay Peluaga (LaDonna), grandchildren, Niko Nakamura, Cami White, Brittney Goodwin, Joseph Goodwin and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Helen Peluaga, brothers Vic Peluaga, Roy Peluaga, Joe Peluaga, sister Ramona Peluaga and grandson Michael Goodwin.

Services will be held July 14, 2009, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Winnemucca. Rosary service will be at 10 a.m. with services at 10:30. Graveside services will immediately follow. A luncheon will be held at St, Paul's for friends and family to celebrate the life of our beloved Weezie.

MR. TERRY C. SPERO

Terry Clyde Spero, "T.C.", was born on Dec. 5, 1947, in Fort Bragg, N.C., to George and Marge Spero. He passed away with his family by his side on March 5, 2010, after a brief illness.

Terry spent his childhood living between Montana and Tungsten, Edgemont, Cahill and Denio, Nev., until the family finally settled in Winnemucca. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1965. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1966 and proudly served his country including service in Vietnam until being honorably discharged in 1972. In 1968 he married Chickee Laca and together they had a daughter Shauna Jo. Terry worked for Sheppard Construction for almost forty years retiring in 2009.

For all his loves — his daughter, his grandson, his sweet dog Emma T., his Chevelle "Ellie" the love which touched all was his music. He listened to and played music throughout his life having his first band "The Nomads" in high school with friends Mike Sheppard, Bruce Stevenson and Richard Higbee. In the summer of 1971 he formed T.C. & Friends a group known and loved far and wide for their amazing music. The people of Winnemucca enjoyed the sounds of T.C. & Friends, at everything from family weddings to the annual Labor Day street dances (and don't forget the great times at the Gem Bar!) for over thirty years. The group played their last concert on Sept. 13, 2009, a benefit concert for a dear friend which drew a massive crowd who danced and laughed into the night.

Terry was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his daughter Shauna Del Soldato with husband Steve and beloved grandson Justin, his brother Joe Spero with wife Linda and niece and nephew Taunya and Scott and great nephew Dustin, his sister Tami Rae Spero, his cousin Gary McGill and daughter Garawyn, Aunts Mary Benti and Martha Benti, numerous cousins and his band brothers Dave Bengochea, Tgnacio Garijo and Steve Finneil. Terry is also survived by the most amazing friends in the world and his family thanks them for their love and their care throughout his life.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010, beginning at 10 a.m. at the National Guard Armory with burial to follow at the Winnemucca Cemetery. Following internment family and friends will join together to share memories and celebrate his life at Ormachea's Dinner House. Please join us.

In lieu of flowers the family would request donations be made to the Veteran's Hospital at VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System, Voluntary Service Office Administrator, 1000 Locust St., Reno Nev. 89502. Terry's family offers its heartfelt thanks to the staff at the hospital as their care and kindness made Terry's final days the best and most comfortable they could be.

MRS. GAYLYN J. SPRIGGS

Gaylyn J. (Click) Spriggs was born to Albert and Lois Click on Nov. 18, 1943. She went to heaven on Jan. 7, 2008.

Gaylyn's ambitious nature and love of Nevada was evident in her election to the Nevada State Assembly representing district 36. She also served the people of Nevada as the Mineral County Assessor and most recently the Nevada Taxpayers Association.

Gaylyn is survived by brother Gary Click, sister Joyce Rhodes, daughters Lois Erquiaga, Terri Crowshaw, sons David and Gary Erickson, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services to be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at 11 a.m., Calvary Chapel at 1744 Forest Way, Carson City.

MRS. JUNE B. STANNARD

June Barbara Stannard 1940-2008
June was born on the 21st day of November 1940 in Turtle Creek, "New Brunswick, Canada. June spent all of her childhood in New Brunswick.

On June 13, 1959, she wed Jack M. Stannard. They had four children together, Michael (deceased), Danny, Allison and Thomas.

Jack was in the union as a welder, and so they moved to the United States in 1978. Traveling many places until they settled down in Winnemucca.

June started working at the Convention Center and shortly became Operations' Manager. June loved her job as she completed 21 years of service to it and the community. June was a member of Silver State Chapter #6 Order of the Eastern Star and was also a devoted Christian.

June is survived by: her husband Jack Stannard of Winnemucca, brother Leo Milton wife Charlotte, children Danny Stannard, Al Stannard and Tom Stannard, wife Paula Stannard of Winnemucca, her grandchildren Krystal Stannard, Michael Stannard, Shelby Stannard, Shane Stannard and Trevor Stannard.

She was predeceased by her son Michael Stannard, sisters Faye and Pauline, mother Emma O'Brien and Father Joe! Milton.

A memorial service will be held at the East Hall-1st floor of the Winnemucca Convention Center on the 25th of February at 11 a.m. Arrangements by Albertson Funeral Home.

MRS. CAROLYN N. STATON

Carolyn Nell Hooks Staton (Cricket), 46 of Winnemucca, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2008, at her home, surrounded by her family. Carolyn was born Aug. 26, 1961, in Susanville, Calif. She loved fishing, camping, gardening and life in general.

She is preceded in death by her older sister Cindy Hooks Ford and son Terry Schneider.

Carolyn is survived by her husband David Staton; sons Joe! Rasmussen of North Carolina and Bryan Schneider of Elko; parents Fran and Walt Johnstone of Winnemucca, and Terry and Shelly Hooks of Reno; sisters Cherrie Holton of Eiko, Tauna Borhurns of Winnemucca, Michele Taylor of Stockton, Calif., Amy Ra of Reno, brothers David Hooks, of Lodi, Calif, Leo Laighton of Reno, Sam Johnstone of Colorado; eight grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

We are all truly blessed to have had her in our lives. She will be missed more than words can say. Memorial services are pending.

MRS. PENNY L. STEMPECK

Penny Lee (Ringo) Stempeck, 50, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Winnemucca, on March 23, 2008. She was born on July 31, 1957 in Escondido, Calif. Her life took her ali over California and Nevada before settling in Winnemucca.

Penny was a very outgoing person who was never afraid to speak her mind and had a great sense of humor. Penny's family and friends will remember her as wonderful women who loved, cared, and was full of life. Penny would have done anything for those closest to her. She was a good friend, a great mother, daughter, and aunt.

Penny is survived by her children Adam and Candice Stempeck (Eric), grandson Dustin, mother Violet Ringo, brother Mike Ringo (Cherene), nieces Mandi, Brandi, Brittany, Ami, and Chrysra, and her loving companion Jerry DuBois.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held Sunday. April 6, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge at 5th and Baud streets.

MR. DOUGLAS G. STUART

Douglas G. Stuart was born June 6, 1960, and died Jan. 13, 2008.

Forty-seven years is a short time to accomplish so much. But Dougie did just that. He grabbed each day by the horns. He was an avid pilot, a boater and a world-class fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his father, Don Swindlehurst.

He is survived by his mother, Loretta Swindlehurst, his brothers Mike Stuart and Gregg Pullen, the love of his life Jennie. His sons Nick (Stephanie) and Jeremy (Vanessa) and his daughter Samantha. Also, the shining stars in his life, his grandchildren Leila and Bizzo.

He leaves behind friends who admired him, and a family who cherished him. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Feb. 9 in the East Hall of the Winnemucca Convention Center.

A celebration of life party will follow at Las Margaritas in the bar. "Back in the sack again!"

MRS. JOAN JESSET SUPPLEE

Joan Supplee 78, of Winnemucca, died June 4, 2010. She was born June 26, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, to William and Laura Jesset. Joan grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, where she graduated from Cleveland High School. She also attended Art School.

Joan worked doing window displays until she married Theodore Leonhardt Supplee on Aug. 28, 1951. They moved to Sacramento, Calif. Joan attended American River College and earned her Associates of Arts degree in Hotel and Hospital Management. She served in Management at La Quinta Hotel and earned several awards over the years.

Joan and Theodore moved to Winnemucca in 1987. Joan was very active in the community. She was an integral part in public telephone and electricity being put in Paradise Hills. She ran for County Commission twice, and served as President of the local AARP and the Art Gallery. She was also active in the local Senior Citizen's group. She loved Winnemucca and its people very much.

Joan was a very talented artist and an intelligent woman. She oil painted and made beautiful clay sculptures. She loved rock hounding and making jewelry. Joan was also an extra in several movies, which she enjoyed greatly.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, who passed away on Sept. 14, 2001, and their son Teddy, who passed away on Jan. 21, 2005.

Joan is survived by daughters Helen, of Las Vegas, Brenda Heale and Monica and son-in-law Bill Harper of Moore, Okla.; sons Tony, Bill and daughter-in-law, Barbara of Winnemucca; twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 11, 2010. Viewing will be at 9 a.m. The church is located at 3205 N. Highland Drive in Winnemucca. Internment will follow at Paradise Valley Cemeteiy. Donations can be made to the Hura-boldt Hospice.
