MRS. GLORIA JAMES

Gloria James passed away suddenly, July 25, 2007, in Reno.

Gloria was born Jan. 16, 1921, near Eric, Okla., however, she lived and worked in Reno/Sparks and Winnemucca for 65 years.

Prior to opening her own business in Winnemucca, Gloria worked for 25 years at John Ascuaga’s Nugget. While in Winnemucca, she was involved in civic and cultural affairs.

Upon retirement Gloria returned to Reno, where she was active in senior activities and as a volunteer at Saint Mary’s Hospital in the newborn nursery.

She is survived by her two daughters, Margaret Fanner (Ted) of St. Louis Mo., and Gretchen Brown of Milpitas, Calif.; grandsons Shawn Milks of St. Louis; Matthew Brown of Belmont, Calif.; Chad Milks (Linda) of Sparks, and two great-grandsons, Shane and Triston Milks, the pride and joy of her later life. The family will hold a private memorial to celebrate a life well lived.

MR. DAVID M. JOHNSON

David M. Johnson, 61, of La Porte, Calif, passed away Friday. Feb. 1, 2008, in Marysville, Calif. He was born March 5, 1945, in Battle Mountain. He went to grammar school in Winnemucca before moving to Reno where he finished his education. He had been a resident of La Porte for the past few years. He loved fishing, landscaping and mining. He was in the Marine Corps, did two tours in Vietnam and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

His mother and father, Gene and Mary Johnson, preceded him in death. He is survived by two sisters, Paula Wilson and Bonnie Cotter, both of Carson City; nephew, Garrett Cotter of Las Vegas; three nieces, Sarah Gulizia, Auburn and Bailey Wilson, and cousins Linda Dufurrena of Winnemucca and Jim Gibson of La Porte, Calif. He had numerous close friends and extended family.

He was loved dearly and he will be in our hearts forever. A Memorial Service will be held on July 4, 2008, in La Porte.

MR. CURTIS L. JOHNSON

Curtis Lee Johnson, age 36, a resident of Winnemucca, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, in Winnemucca at the Getchell mine site.

Curtis Lee Johnson, the son of Royal and Glee (Krug) Johnson, was born June 12, 1971, at Othello, Wash. He graduated from Central High School in Monmouth, Ore., in 1989.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, friends and most especially his family.

Surviving “CJ” is his wife of 14 years, Heather; his sons, Grant, 13, Garett, 12, and his daughter Shelby 10; his father and mother Royal and Glee Johnson of Monmouth, Ore.; his sister Amy Johnson, of Monmouth; his grandparents Russel and Rena Mae Johnson of Independence, Ore., and Ethel Krug of Connell, Wash.; father and mother in law Gary and Terisa (Peterson) Morgan of Post Falls, Idaho; brother in laws Douglas Morgan and his wife Tern Lyn of Winnemucca, and Matthew Morgan and his wife Tanya (Cushman) Morgan of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and numerous uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at 4 p.m. at the Winnemucca Convention Center with Pastor Mark Kliewer of the Zion Lutheran Church Officiating. Graveside Services will be held at a later date at the Winnemucca Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations be made to the Johnson’s Children Fund at the Winnemucca Branch of the Bank of America, Account Number 501003356564, 1005 W. 4th Street, Winnemucca, Nev., 89445.

Albertson Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
