MR. BLAINE L. HANSEN
Blaine Leavitt Hansen passed away on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Yuma Regional Hospital of liver failure.
He was born Dec. 14, 1939, to Martin Evan Hansen and Vesta Leavitt Hansen in Smithfield, Utah, and educated in Smithfield and Richmond, Utah. By trade he was a painting contractor and retired from Utah State University's Physical Plant. He also retired from the Utah National Guard. He married Loraine Bair on Nov. 18, 1960, in the Logan LDS Temple. He was a faithful home teacher and served once as a financial clerk in the LDS Church. They were blessed with three children: Jerry B. (Michelle) Hansen of Winnemucca, Shelly (Michael) Haywood of Tucson, Ariz., and Angela (Gary) Hogan of Charlotte, N.C. He was a devoted husband and a loving father. They loved their eight grandchildren: Steven, Shelby, Jerrica and Tasha Hansen and Danielle, Olivia, Courtney and Travis Hogan.
Blaine enjoyed golfing, dutch oven cooking, wood carving, pitching horse shoes and was the Little League football coach and chairman in Smithfield for 26 years. While in Utah he was a member of the Smithfield-Lions, Club. Since retiring in 1999 he and Loraine lived in North Carolina in the summers and Yuma, Ariz., in the winters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Wendell (Ruth) Hansen. His sister, Colleen (Richard) Jenson live in Ogden, Utah. Interment will be in Smithfield Cemetery at a date to be later announced.
MR. HENRY H. HANSEN
Henry H. "Hank" Hansen, 90, of Winnemucca died at Humboldt General Hospital Tuesday, July 8, 2008. He was born at the family ranch at Centerville. He was raised and attended high school in Gardnerville, where he excelled in several sports. He ranched in Gardnerville, Reno, Denio and several other areas around Nevada, with his final resting place in Winnemucca.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mathias and Edith Christensen Hansen, brothers and sisters Inger Hansen, Ott Hansen, Ann Rundberg, Edith Munson. Earl Hansen, son Mathias Thomas and granddaughter Lori Blair.
He is survived by his wife Helen of Winnemucca, sister, Rubel David of Oakland Calif, his son Ott (Kim) Hansen of Reno, three daughters, Inger Casey of Winnemucca, Barbara (Roy) Enochson of Yerington, Mary Ann (Ray) Blair of Rupert, Idaho, grandchildren Inger Aiono of Carson City, Toby Enochson of Yerington, Clay Blair of Rupert, Idaho, Holly Hochist of Patomic, Md., Stephanie Halstead of Austin, Texas, Shawn Halstead of Tuscon, Ariz., Jack Hansen of Pleasant Valley and several great grandchildren. He was loved and admired by all that knew him.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15. 2008, at Highland Park on Water Canyon Road, Winnemucca. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Humboldt Vol. Hospice, P.O. Box 843, Winnemucca, NV 89446.
MR. LOYD F. HARRIS
Loyd Fredick Harris was born Sept. 18, 1916, to John Fredrick Harris and Rebecca Bingham in Tucson, Ariz. Loyd met and married Marian Ruth Townsend on Sept. 22, 1938.
They had five children, Ken and Alice Harris, Molalla, Ore.; Jerry and Irene Harris, Molalla, Ore.; Cheri and Ray Richardson, Winnemucca; Wayne Harris (deceased), and Darrell and Jane Harris, Oregon City, Ore.
He had 17 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
He died on Oct. 20, 2007, at Humboldt General Hospital. He is now survived by his children, grand children and great grand children.
Loyd was a good man, he helped a lot of people in his life. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as mission president of Salem Stake. He loved animals and especially dogs and horses. He worked on several ranches in his younger days.
There will be a viewing on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Albertson Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at the Latter Day Saints Chapel on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m., in Molalla, Ore. He will be buried at Adams Cemetery in Molalla, Ore., where his wife is buried, following the services.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends. We love you Dad!
MRS. MARIAN R. HARRIS
Marian Ruth Townsend Harris was born Sept. 8, 1919, to Clara and Chester Townsend in Atglen, Penn. Marian moved west when she was 17 to Tucson, Ariz., where she met and married Loyd Fredrick Harris on Sept. 22, 1938. They had five children, Ken (Alice) of Molalla, Ore.; Jerry (Irene) of Molalla, Ore.; Cheri (Ray) Richardson of Winnemucca; Wayne who is deceased, and Darrell (Jane) of Oregon City, Ore. Marian has 17 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.
Marian died of congestive heart failure at Humboldt General Hospital on Oct. 5, 2007, at 11 p.m.
She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held for Marian on this Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Mary Way (Grass Valley Chapel).
She was a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many callings when she was younger. She especially loved genealogy.
She lived in Winnemucca for almost 20 years and will be greatly missed by family and friends. We love you mom!
Graveside services will be held at the Adams Cemetery on Adams Road in Molalla, Ore., on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007. She will be buried there.
MRS. DOROTHY F. HARRISON
Dorothy Fransway Harrison was born in Lake City, Calif., on Sept. 5, 1925, and went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2008. Dorothy went peacefully with her children by her side.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 2002, her parents Chet and Noreene Fransway, Sister Irene Fransway-Chabagno and grandparents, Wes and Minnie Polander.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter Noreene Cascio (Tony), of Sparks, sons Chet Harrison (Jewel), Rick Harrison (Jana), and K.C. Harrison (Patty), all of Winnemucca.
Dorothy leaves a fine bunch of grandchildren; Anthony Cascio (Donna), Chris Cascio, Andy Harrison (April), Sadie Harrison (Dillon), Brian Harrison (Mandy), Adam Harrison, Brenna Harrison, Patrick Harrison, and Amanda Harrison, Great-grandchildren are Avianna Cascio, Anthony Cascio, Lilliana Harrison, Katie Harrison and Jacob Harrison and two nieces and one nephew.
Dorothy also leaves her faithful companion Susie Q., her little white Bichon dog, which was her constant friend.
In memory of Dorothy, feed a stray cat, which she did; plant some flowers and enjoy life.
A graveside service was held Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Winnemucca Cemetery.
Friends and family were welcome to share memories at 4725 Bodily Place following the service.
MRS. WILMA HARTOCH
Wilma Peraldo Hartoch, 93, passed away in Reno on May 28, 2007. She was born on May 22, 1914, in Paradise Valley, to Guglielmo (William) and Claudma Peraldo. The Peraldos owned a ranch where Fort Wingfield Scott was located. Wilma went to school in Paradise Valley and graduated from Humboldt County High School in 1933.
Wilma was actively involved in all aspects of 4H in Humboldt County. In addition to completing every project available for girls, she was a leader and recruited 4H Club members for Humboldt and Lander counties. She was elected Humboldt County 4H club president in 1931, and Nevada state president in 1932. Some of her work in 4H included cooking, dressmaking and oratorical competitions, where she won numerous local, state and regional awards. Wilma earned a trip to Chicago in 1934 to the National 4H Club Congress, where she was awarded the Montgomery Ward leadership college scholarship.
After graduation from high school, Wilma worked in Winnemucca for the U.S. government and the power company. As a businesswoman, she established and operated the Orchid flower shop until her marriage to Kurt L. Hartoch, MD on June 7, 1947, in Elko.
Wilma was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
In 1968, she met with members of the Humboldt Hospital Board of Directors to establish a hospital auxiliary in Winnemucca. Wilma was elected president and under her leadership, the Auxiliary held fundraising events, performed service projects and purchased equipment for the hospital. The Poke and Peek thrift store opened in February 1969 as the Auxiliary’s major fundraising project. In August 1969, the Auxiliary spearheaded the campaign to pass the bond issue for a new hospital. Wilma served as the local Auxiliary president until 1971 and as the Nevada State Hospital Auxiliary president in 1972. In 1980, Wilma was awarded the Outstanding Community Service award for Humboldt County.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kurt in 1995, son Mark in 1987, brothers Lilio and Joseph, and sisters Primina Pasquale and Mary Johnstone Leighton.
She is survived by her brother Louie Peraldo of Winnemucca, children Carole Flaxman, and her husband Don of Los Altos, Calif., and Marlese Pinney and her husband Mel of San Diego; granddaughters: Alaina Pinney and Alexa Pinney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation is scheduled from noon until 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2007, at Walton Funeral Home, 875 W. 2nd St., Reno. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Chapel at Our Mother of Sorrows Mausoleum.
MR. WILLIAM H. HARTZLER
William Henry “Bill” Hartzler, 88, of Golconda passed away Dec. 10, 2007, at Humboldt General Hospital. He was born May 1, 1919, in Harrisonville, Mo., to Sherman and Maggie (Freude) Hartzler. He attended a one-room school in Mount Pleasant, Kan.
Bill met and married his wife Willy Fuller June 23, 1940, in Hallowell, Kan. Moved his wife and three children to northern California in 1945.
They had another child and then moved to Southern California in 1953, where he raised his family before moving to Nevada.
He moved to Golconda in 1967. Bill had been a auto mechanic all his life until he retired in 1976. He served as Constable of Gold Run Township from 1974-1979.
He was a lifetime member of NRA, life member of the Whittington Center Gun Club, Second Amendment Foundation, and other than his family his next love was hunting, fishing and gold panning.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister and an infant great-grandson.
Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years Willy, of Golconda, sons: William Jr., of Las Vegas, Donald and wife Carol of Barstow, Calif., daughters: Norma Jean Brashears of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Maggie Marlene Wright of Golconda. One brother: Sherman Hartzler of Topeka, Kan. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 27 greatgrandchildren, 11 great-greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A gathering of friends and family will take place Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at 10 am, at Albertson Funeral Home in Winnemucca.
MR. WILLIAM T. HEDGE
William T. Hedge (Bill) died Aug. 18, 2007. He was born April 17, 1929.
He is survived by his son William Hedge and wife Gretchen of Helena, Mont.; son Bruce Hedge and wife Jan of Boise, Idaho, along with their children Nikki Hedge, Laurie Harper and Jim Harper; son John Hedge and wife Kathy of Billings, Mont., along with their children Ashley, Seth, Josh and Jake; daughter Cheryl and husband Tim Carl, along with their children Carl, Annie, Sarah and Patrick Hagg and Chelsea and J.J. Nason and grandson Ayvier; daughter Judy and husband Mike Deming, and their children Camron and Shania Guy-Carro. Bill is also survived by his soul-mate, Betty Nason of Winnemucca.
A celebration of the life of Bill Hedge will be held Aug. 22 at the Red Lion Hotel at “his table” from 2 p.m. -—4 p.m., with cookies and coffee served.

MRS. JERE "Nana" HEITMAN
Jere “Nana” Heitman passed away quietly with her family at her side in Meridian, Idaho, on Aug. 7, 2007.
Jere was born with her twin sister, Pat, on May 9, 1926, to Joe and Irene Campbell in Genoa. Her grandparents were pioneer Nevada families. Jere married Dennis Heitman 61 years ago in Carson City. They owned the Heitman Ranch in Carson Valley until acquiring Willow Creek Ranch in Orovada in 1963.
Since 1980, they operated other properties in Idaho until retiring.
Jere made every holiday special and enjoyed preparing for large family gatherings. She was very artistic; her needlework and paintings are on display in many family homes.
Jere is survived by her loving husband Dennis, and family: Dennis, Jr. of Orovada; Lana and Jeff Servatius of Eagle, Idaho; Margie and Rob Wonhof of Reno; Bob and Marlene Fettic of Orovada; Jody and Jim Copenhaver of Elko; and Jeanne Fettic of Winnemucca.
She will be fondly remembered as “Nana” to her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and families. Jere’s family wishes to thank Life’s Doors Hospice and Home Care for their care and support.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral in Garden City, Idaho. The family will hold private family services. Memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.
MRS. JULIE A. HEMBREE
Julie Ann (Longmire) Hembree, of Reedsport, Ore., passed away Nov. 7, 2007. She was born and raised in Helena, Mont. She also resided in California and Nevada for several years. She spent most of her life raising her children in Montana and Nevada. She moved to Oregon in 1989 and spent the rest of her life making it her home.
Julie worked in the hardware business for many years, making many good friends along the way. She enjoyed tatting, crocheting, knitting and was an avid gardener. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
She is survived by her children, Lora Parker of Escanaba, Mich., Randy (Lori) Parker, of Missoula, Mont., Mike (Chris) Niemi of Sheridan, Wyo., and Benny Parker of Michigan; parents Gladys Tovey (Shepard) of Helena, Mont., and Gilbert Longmire, also of Helena; brothers and sisters Patty Donaldson, Donna Shwartz, Rick Longmire, Gilbert Longmire, Jr., and George Miller; six grandchildren, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Tamy Kay, son David James, granddaughter Kayleigh Marie and step-father Charlie Tovey. Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Helena, Mont., on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. There will be a gettogether following at the Eagles Lodge in Helena.
MRS. CATHERINE A. HEYNE
Catherine Audry (Ma) Heyne, better known to her many friends as Ma. She was born Nov. 4, 1922, to Forrest Oliver and Oddie McGinnis. She went to her new home peacefully in her sleep on March 15, 2008, due to a long illness of lung problems at the Humboldt General Hospital in Winnemucca.
Ma's mother later remarried to AJ. Westerman in El Dorado, Calif., where she went to school in the one-room school house on the hill west of town along with her brother Roy McGinnis, her half brother Don Westerman and her half sister Zona Westerman/Fletcher.
Ma married Otto Eugene Heyne and had two sons, Forrest Bert Heyne of Winnemucca, and Allen Eugene Heyne of Gold Beach, Ore.
Ma worked for the Maid Rite Sausage Company for 30 years in Sacramento, Calif., where she made her home. She later moved to Winnemucca in 2002, where she spent the remainder of her life.
Ma's many enjoyments in life was to be with her family and friends, fishing and camping in the Blue Mountains of northeast-era California's many remote lakes and streams.
She leaves behind one brother, Roy McGinnis of Cosmopolis, Wash. Bert and his wife Lorraine of Winnemucca, and Allen and his wife Karen of Gold Beach, Ore. Six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren scattered throughout California, Nevada, Washington, Colorado and Michigan.
Ma was a member of the Paradise Valley Community Church.
Graveside services will be held at the old cemetery in El Dorado, Calif. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in Winnemucca for her many good friends.
MR. GREGORY HIGLEY
Gregory Brian Higley, age 47, died at his home on Friday, July 20, 2007.
Greg was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Sept. 28, 1959, to his parents Judie and Dan Higley. Shortly after his birth they moved to Elko, and that is where he was raised. His brother Chuck and sister Dana were soon brought into the family.
In 1972 he moved to Winnemucca with his mother and siblings. There he enjoyed playing in the high school band and came to meet his future wife in his freshman year. Just three short years later they were married on June 19, 1976.
Over the next six years Greg would see his three sons enter this world, Christopher Brian Higley, David Charles Higley and Thomas Gregory Higley.
Greg worked different jobs from the time he was in his early teens until he got a job at Goldfields mine in September 1987. There he worked for 18 years, playing on the company softball team and becoming an E.M.T.
Greg enjoyed many things. He liked to hunt and fish. He enjoyed modeling, golfing, woodworking and following his favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. But mostly his favorite past time was spending time with his family and watching his children and grandchildren grow up and play.
Greg is survived by his wife and soul mate Carol J. (Choate) Higley. His sons Chris, Tommy, and David and his wife Spring. His six grandchildren, Trystyn, Alex, Travis, Casey, Tiffany and Tara. His brother Charles (Chuck), his wife Christy and their son Josh, and his sister Dana. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his stepfather Ben Cox, his father-inlaw Johnnie Choate, sister-in-law Dee Dee Brickey, nephews James Whitmore and Timothy Kenney and great nephew Kolby Canham.
There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, July 28, at 5 p.m. at the home of Greg’s mother-in-law, Jean Choate at 5560 Old Jungo Road. For directions please call Chris at 6233253 or Jean at 623-3009.

MRS. SHERRY A. HILL
Sherry A. Hill March 17, 1950 - Sept. 1, 2007
Sherry A. Hill, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend of many, passed away on Sept. 1, 2007, at University Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah. Sherry, the recipient of a new heart in 2002, began the fight of her life, arriving at the hospital on Aug. 27 when her new heart began rejecting and her body started giving out.
Sherry’s greatest joy in life was caring for others, especially but not limited to, her family. Her generous spirit and capacity to love will surely be missed. She is preceded in death by her father Mason Smith, brother James Smith, sister April Baxter and beloved daughter Candace Jordan.
She is survived by her loving mother Bonnie Hall of Kiamath Falls; beloved husband Joe Hill, best friend and daughter Marilyn Doornek, granddaughter’s Caresssa Aguilar and Amy Doornek, grandson’s Andy Jordan and Mitch Doomek, great granddaughter Keira Stovall, of Battle Mountain; stepson Joe Hill Jr. (Wendy), granddaughter’s Kaila, Mickey and Becka, grandson’s Luke and Levi, of Twin Falls; stepson Barney Hill (Melinda), grandson’s Bear and Bret of Fort Rucker, Ala.; and stepson Jesse Hill (Rebecca) and grandson Cooper of Winnemucca.
Memorial services for Sherry Hill were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Battle Mountain Civic Center. The family hosted a luncheon immediately following the services.

MR. KEITH HODSON
Keith Hodson, noted local businessman and Nevada resident since 1949, passed away at his beloved Rainbow Ridge Opal Mine in Virgin Valley.
His early childhood was in Elmhurst, Ill. After graduation from the New Mexico School of Mines in Socorro, N.M., he entered the U.S. Army and served as a combat medic in Italy with the 10th Mountain Regiment.
It was in Socorro that Keith and Agnes were married in 1942. Agnes was called home in September 2006, just days short of their 64th anniversary.
Survived by four children: Shari Youngstrom (Redmond, Ore.), Brian Hodson (Cave Creek, Ariz.), Carol Durkin (Cave Creek) and Glen Hodson (Redmond). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
After discharge from the Army, Keith and Agnes, with baby Shari, went to Mina and began mining turquoise. In 1949, now with baby Brian, they moved to Winnemucca and purchased the opal mine.
In 1956 they moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., and started Hodson’s Gem Shop, a fixture on First Avenue for 43 years, dealing in fine gems, minerals and jewelry. After an 11-year gap, the family grew again with Carol and a few years later Glen. The Scottsdale store was the winter operation, but summers were always spent at the family’s favorite place, mining the beautiful opals at Rainbow Ridge.
Keith lived a long and eventful life and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends and loyal customers. His amazing “gift of gab” and endless (true) stories made him a person you could not forget.
MRS. JUANITA R. HOEGSBERT
Juanita Roxana Hoeflein Hoegsberg quietly and sweetly took her last earthly breath on April 30, 2008, at Harmony Manor, where she had resided for the last 19 months. She was held in the arms of her daughter and grand daughter as her spirit left her body and returned home. Family and friends had visited and said their good byes during her lengthy illness.
Juanita was born March 27, 1912, in Toledo, Ore. She moved to Oakland, Calif, as a young girl with her parents William and Serena Hoeflein. In June of 1934 she and her sweetheart, Folmer K. Hoegsberg, eloped to Reno to marry. They resided in the bay area, where he owned the Derby Street Meat Market and she worked as a secretary to a senator. At the age of 45, she was widowed, with two children to raise. She went to work as the mail girl for Mt. Diablo Unified School District. It wasn't long before she was promoted and at her retirement in 1976, she was the head accountant of this very large school district.
Juanita loved to travel. She and her cousin, Gertrude Jensen, took many trips together after retirement. Amtrak and ocean liners were their favorite modes of transportation. They visited Europe, Alaska and Canada and were frequent visitors of family in Oregon, Iowa, Texas and Nevada. Wherever these two women went, they brought with them a spirit of adventure and celebration.
Juanita is survived by her son and daughter-in-law. Dr. Donald Hoegsberg and Ursula Hoegsberg of Shell Rock, Iowa, her daughter and son-in-law, Bob and Rae Edwards, of Winnemucca, her grandson Broc Edwards and wife, Aimee Edwards, and their children, Claire and Dane Edwards of Dallas, Texas, and her grand daughter Molly Edwards and her son, Nolan Edwards of Winnemucca.
The family would like to thank Dr. Robbie Grant and the staff at Harmony Manor for the wonderful care they gave our mother during a most difficult time in her life. Some people truly are angels. A celebration of Juanita's life with family and friends has already begun and will continue until the last story is told.
MR. KENNETH O. HOWARD
Kenneth Orrin Howard, age 54, passed away on July 16, 2007, at his home in Winnemucca. Ken was born in Fallon on Feb. 9, 1953, to Orrin and Davi Howard and raised in Yerington. He was involved in numerous activities such as a member of the Order of the Arrow Boy Scouts, coach for little league baseball and the Yerington Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Crew. Ken showed a great talent for fixing vehicles, and with Twila by his side he opened up K & T Auto Shop.
The Howard family moved to Winnemucca in 1988. Ken helped to put the first demolition derby on in Yerington and organized all the demolition derbies here in Winnemucca. With the help from Dave Dunaway, they organized the very first eighth-mile drag races held yearly behind Arbys. Arena truck racing was the next project he helped get started here in Winnemucca, and he traveled with his sons, Kenny and Ricky to Idaho, Oregon, and California to compete. Ken was also an original member of the Koyote Kruisers here in Winnemucca.
With his continuing passion for automobiles, he soon became part of the construction and development of the Winnemucca Regional Raceway Association. He served as president of the WRRA up until his resignation earlier this year.
Ken also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family and friends. Ken volunteered his time at his son Rick’s shop, Wildside Slot Cars and Hobbies.
Before his retirement, Ken worked for Hunewill Construction, Pinson Mining Company and Curtis Machinery. He is preceded in death by his mother, Delores Davis Howard. Suvivors include his wife, Twila and sons Kenny and Rick, grandson, Jesse, and father Orrin Howard, all of Winnemucca and sister Becky Pond of Yerington. Nieces Buffi Krug of Reno, Valerie Smith of Winnemucca, Roberta Smith of Yerington nephew Michael S. Howard of Reno and many, many more nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 20, 2007, between p.m. and 8 p.m. at Albertson Funeral Home, with funeral services at the Winnemucca Convention Center East Hall on Saturday July 21, 2007, at 10 a.m. A reception will follow the motorcycle and classic car procession down Winnemucca Boulevard at the Winnemucca Convention Center.
MR. RICHARD L. HUMPHRIES
Richard Lee Humphries, 59 years old, passed away June 14, 2007, at Saint Aiphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho, with his loving family by his side.
He was born Jan. 9, 1948, in Wendell, Idaho, to Kenneth and Della Humphries. Rich belonged to the LDS church and was sealed to his mom, dad, sister and brother for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1965. Rich began elementary school in Buhl, Idaho, and continued his education, graduating from Jerome High School with the class of 1966. Rich excelled in football and basketball. Rich’s many, many friends meant the world to him!
He helped his Grandpa Baxter on the family farm outside of Jerome. After graduation from high school he worked other farming and construction jobs. Throughout his life, Rich enjoyed fishing, bowling, gardening, playing with his dogs, going to the Oregon coast and his ultimate passion in life, carpentry. Rich and his first wife were married in 1966 and his only biological daughter, Teri, was born to this union. Rich’s role as a dad and grandpa was not limited to his loving daughter, Teri, but also his many stepchildren and grandchildren. Rich was also married to Janell Hanson (deceased) and loved her children very much.
Rich, known as “Big R” to his construction buddies, moved to Winnemucca in 1978, working construction for Ray Mills, and later for Mike Sheppard, whom he developed a close friendship that endures to this day. He met his current wife Linda the day after Christmas 1985. They began their journey of sobriety in April 1987, and were married Jan. 26, 1991, in Reno. Rich began working at Wal-Mart (where Linda later became employed) in Winnemucca in 1997. He held many positions at Wal-Mart and, for four to five years, you could see Rich during the holiday season as Santa Claus. Rich was also very community minded, determined to help out whenever and wherever needed, expecting absolutely nothing in return. Linda, Rich’s beloved, devoted, determined wife and angel here on earth, was by his side through the good times and the bad. She remembers on many occasions that Rich would say “the Big Guy” would take care of everything. Rich’s belief in this never wavered and was the foundation of the way he conducted his life.
Rich is survived by his loving wife, Linda, of Winnemucca; his sister Marsha Parks of Hansen, Idaho, brother, Cal Humphries of Corvallis, Ore.; daughter, Teri Reynolds (Bill) of Filer, Idaho; stepchildren, Sherry Kirk (Tony Bell) of Kuna, Idaho, Rick Kirk (Sandy) of Meridian, Idaho, and Suzanne Claudey (Jo Mobley) of Winnemucca; grandchildren, Cody, Chelsie, Richard, Tanner, Nikki, Alan, Justin, Amber, Genny, Daylan, Michael, Felicia, Danielle and Marrianna, all who loved their “Papa Rich” very, very much; brothers-in-law, John and Mike; sister-in-law, Roberta. Rich is also survived by his Uncle Kenny and Aunt Sharon of southern Utah, who were a tremendous influence in his life; and his good friend and stepfather, Virg Twitchell and family of Jerome, Idaho. Also surviving are his beloved canine companions, Dakota, Skittles, Buddy and Allie, at the family home in Winnemucca.
Rich’s family would like to thank all the doctors and medial staff at Saint Al’s for their diligent efforts trying to find the cause of his illness.
What a joyous reunion it must have been in heaven as he joined his mom and dad, Della and Kenneth, many other family members, and two of the greatest loves of Rich’s life, his beloved golden retrievers, Joshua and Sampson!
A celebration of life will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, July 28, at Grass Valley Baptist Church, 4150 West Thomas Canyon Road, Winnemucca, NV 89445.
After the service please join us at Las Margaritas (in the banquet room), 47 E. Winnemucca Blvd., for cake, coffee and sharing memories about Rich. Hope to see you there.

MRS. MARGIE HUTCHINS
Margie Hutchins, beloved mother, was born in Eagle Rock, Calif., May 28, 1918. She passed peacefully in her sleep at her home in Carmichael, Calif, April 10, 2008.
Margie attended Reno High School, where she played the drums in the Reno High School band, and the University of Nevada, where she majored in music. She loved music and played the violin, the piano and the drums.
At 20 years of age Margie and Lew Hutchins married and moved to Winnemucca shortly after World War II. She lived in Winnemucca with her husband Lew Hutchins, owner of Hutchins Motors, her daughter Linda and son Lew for many years. Margie was chief operator at the telephone company and later worked in the business office during the time when princess telephones came on the market. While in Winnemucca. she was active in the Literary Club, as well as a supporter of the PTA.
She moved to Sacramento, Calif, in 1967. While in Sacramento, she became active in the Sacramento Travel Club, where she served several years as secretary and later President. She was an avid rock hound and loved reading Nevada and California history.
While in her fifties, Margie accompanied her college geology class down the Colorado River on a rafting trip. Being the oldest member of the group, she was the only person who loved hiking at the end of the day.
Margie loved traveling. She visited Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, New Zealand, the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico and numerous national parks, and Hawaii four times. In the 1950s she drove from Winnemucca through all the northern states to the east coast, south to Florida, and back to Nevada through the southern states. Margie was still camping with her family at 82 years of age.
Margie leaves behind her son Lew Hutchins (Winnemucca), daughter Linda (Kauai), sister Myrta Gordon (Sacramento), niece Gail O'Neill (Fallen), niece Debbie Dwyer (New York), nephew Scott Gordon (Carmichael, Calif.) and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
