MR. JOSEPH A. FERREIRA
Joseph Alfred Ferreira left us on Oct. 15, 2008, one day before his birthday in Winnemucca. Joe came to us on Oct. 16, 1939, in San Francisco, Calif. He joined his parents Joseph and Margaret Ferreira and his sister Joan.
It was clear early that when Joe was born a mold had been broken. He was a happy, curious and loving little boy, Joe never met an item that he could not take apart and then mostly put back together. He was an inveterate collector of stuff which began when he was five as he wheeled home, on his wagon, a burned out water heater found somewhere in the neighborhood in the middle of San Francisco!
His love of rebuilding cars and small airplanes became apparent during his early adult life and continued until his recent health setbacks.
He was smart, honest, fair, generous to a fault and cared deeply about his family and friends. According to his sister he had a sense of humor parallel to none and could spout zingers that left her laughing until her sides hurt. Their political, philosophical and religious discussions were legendary and always ended with her throwing in the towel, so to speak.
Joe served in Vietnam as a member of the United States Air Force maintaining combat airplanes. After returning home he was trained by American Airlines as an airline mechanic. Later his interests turned to maintaining heavy equipment for Peter Built and finally for the gold mines here in Northern Nevada.
Joe lived at various times in Yerington, Incline Village, Battle Mountain, Lovelock and finally in Winnemucca. He loved living, hiking and exploring in the Nevada desert.
His loss goes beyond the bounds of understanding. He will be remembered always by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Joan and Paul Selchau of Mendocino, Calif., his cousin Sister Patricia Hunter of Sam Mateo, Calif., his step daughters and their families Ramona and Eric Aguilar and Nicole, Shasta and Carlos of Winnemucca, Sherry and Jason Coyle, Robert and Brandon of Lovelock and Lena, and Wayne Matthews of Minden, La. He was predeceased by his nephew Mark.
Joe requested that there be no services. He will be buried in Mendocino beside his nephew.
For those who may wish, his family suggests contributions in his name to the Hum-boldt Volunteer Hospice of Winnemucca.

He is preceded in death by four sisters: Angie, Mary, Agnes, Joanie; brother Dominic; and his wife of 30 years, Louise Ferro.
He is survived by six children: Phillip Jr., Robert, Thomas, Brenda, Rick and Anthony; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and estranged wife Diane Rositano Ferro, Phillip passed away quietly in his home after a short illness. He will be greatly missed.

MRS. KATHRYN R. FRANK
Kathryn R. (Archer Hutchison) Frank, 57, died on Oct. 1, 2009, at home in Carson City.
Born in Las Vegas to Sammy Joe and Addie Katherine Archer, she moved to Winnemucca with her family in 1967. She was preceded in death by her son Scott Hutchison on June 21, 2009, brother W. F. Dennis Archer and her parents. Those left to go on without her are her son Rick Hutchison, his wife April and daughter Sairah Hutchison. Four grandchildren: Noah, Jayden, Scotty Jr., and Joshua. Also left behind are brother's John and David Archer, with several Uncles, Aunts and Cousins whose names would fill the page.
Kathy figured out pretty early that it was her life she had to live, and had the courage to see it through. Some of you may know her as a school bus driver, teachers' aid, a checker at Raley's, or at rare times, the stay at home Mom, she worked hard at each one. A Champion for her family, no wrestling match or basketball game too far away, nor a job too hard, or sacrifice too large that deterred her from that task, and she raised a fine family. Her children are proof of that. Her last job was with the DMV, yeah, kind of fits doesn't it, always making people happy.
Kathy had a variety of friends, as different as a mixed bouquet of flowers, some with only the vase in common, her friendship. She hand picked and loved every flower in it.
Don't think that being family got you a free pass into her good graces. Some days living 500 hundred miles away was a good thing, but really wishing you lived next door.
You loved her or you didn't, you liked her or you didn't, and most likely you knew how she felt about you. Honest, willful, strong, determined, call it what you will. But those who loved and knew her best, called her family or friend, and know that she was genuine.
Kathy's Memorial Services will be held on Oct. 17 at Albertson Funeral Home, 47 W. First St., Winnemucca NV, 89445, Phone number: (775) 623-2986 and begin at 2 p.m.
