MRS. RUTH M. EASTHAM

Ruth Margarite Grover Eastham, age 96, died in her daughter Bonnie’s home in Winnemucca on Monday, Nov. 19, 2007.

She was born in Van Etten, N.Y., on May 1, 1911.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Bonnie Northrup (Lamar) and two sons Dale Grover in Newfield, N.Y. and Buckley Grover, Spencer, N.Y; granddaughters Victoria Williams, Rhonda Sullivan, Barbara Wilson (Sterling, Torin), Robin Osterkamp, Pamela Evans and Kimberley Robynowsky. Grandson Michael Grover and several great grandchildren.

Memorial to be announced at a later date.

MR. JOHN J. ELGES

John J. Elges, 74, a long-time resident of Winnemucca, passed away on Nov. 13, 2008, at his home in Midas.

He is survived by his daughters Debbie Castonguay and Toni James and by his grandchildren Katelyn Castonguay, Nick Castonguay, Waylon Huber, Tessa James all of Winnemucca, and Tanneil Ernst of Reno.

Mr. Elges was a retired employee of the Union Pacific (formerly Western Pacific) Railroad.

MRS. JOSEPHINE E. ELLISON

Josephine E. Ellison (Jo), 86, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on April 19, 1921, to George B. and Wilhelmina A. Frink. Jo lived most of her life in Winnemucca, where she was raised.

After graduating from high school in Winnemucca, she moved to San Francisco, where she attended business school and worked at the SPCA.

Jo lived in the city for 15 years, where she acquired an appreciation for classical music and opera, both of which she enjoyed throughout her life. Jo married Lyle Ellison in 1955 and moved to his ranch in Orovada.

They moved to Winnemucca, where Jo lived for the remainder of her life. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of the Methodist Church.

Jo is survived by her daughter, Karen, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; her son, David, his wife, Karen, and their children Katie and Matthew of Gardnerville; and her daughter, Susan, of Reno.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle (1985), and her sister, Mary Louise McBride (2004).

At her request, services will not be held. Her remains will be placed in the Winnemucca Cemetery next to her husband, Lyle.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary, P.O. Box 1073, WinnemucCa, Nevada 89446.

MRS. MARGARET K. ELWELL

Margaret Elwell, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 15, 2007. Margaret was born on May 28, 1915, to Charles Clifton Snell and Myrtle Bruner Snell in Guthrie, Okla.

She was married to Frederick Bryant Elwell on Dec. 24, 1939, in Guthrie. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Fred, her parents, her sister Ruth, and her daughter Kathleen. She is survived by son Fred B. Elwell Jr. (Elaine) of Tooele, Utah, daughter Lillian (Earl) Bohannan, of Big Spring, Texas, son Dana of Sun Valley, son Don of Big Spring, Texas, and Joe (Crystal) of Indiana. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 22 great- grandchildren, son-in-law Jim Dubert of Spring Valley, Calif., and Cleone Hambright of Alaska, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Winnemucca. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Fred ElwelI fund of the Nevada Baptist Foundation.

MRS. DOROTHY B. ENOCHSON

Dorothy B. (Ohl) Enochson passed away peacefully, Jan. 12, 2008, at her loving son Roy and Barbara Enochson's home in Yerington. She was 87.

Dorothy was born to Clarence and Albina Ohl in Reno on Aug. 15, 1920.

A lifelong resident of Nevada, Dorothy was married to Wayne Enochson Dec. 14, 1941, shortly before Wayne was shipped off to fight in World War II. After the war Dorothy and Wayne settled in Reno, where she was a homemaker and raised four boys. She was very involved with her boy's sports and school activities. Dorothy loved the outdoors and also her housekeeping chores. After Wayne passed away she moved to Winnemucca. While in Winnemucca she became a volunteer for Poke N' Peek.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert Ohl and Roy Ohl, husband Wayne and son, William.

She is survived by her sons Roy Enochson (Barbara) of Yerington, Dale Enochson (Maryanna) of Winnemucca, David Enochson (Melinda) of Winnemucca, 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

According to Dorothy's wishes a private memorial will be held at her son Dale's home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Poke N Peek, 3205 Bengochea Circle, Winnemucca, Nevada 89445.

MR. RAFAEL ERQUIAGA

Rafael Erquiaga passed away on May 27, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 4, 1928, to Maria Visitation (Goitiandia) and Rufino Erquiaga in Bizkaia, Spain. He immigrated to the United States in 1954 to work as a sheepherder before pursuing a career in mining. He became a U.S. citizen in 1960 and returned to Euzkal Herria to marry the love of his life, Felipa Uriguen. The newlywed couple came to the United States on June 21, 1961, to begin their new lives together.

After mining in Getchell and Lovelock, Rafael planted his roots in Battle Mountain, working for Battle Mountain Gold Company for 26 years. Retiring in 1993, he loved to fish, garden, tend his grapevines and make Basque wine (txakolin). Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. His life was outstanding example of a strong work ethic, filled with integrity and devotion to family.

Rafael is survived by Felipa, his wife of 46 years, son Ralph (wife Lois) of Battle Mountain; daughters Angie Hernandez (husband Robert), Mary Stanley Romero (husband Gary) of Reno. He was so happy to be the “World’s Greatest Aitxitxe” to Hannah Erquiaga and Jayson Cutler of Battle Mountain, as well as Amaia Stanley, Jason, Ryan and Jamie Romero of Reno.

He is survived by brothers Antonio, Joaquin and Ramon, sisters Martina and Miren of Euzkal Herria and brother Eusebio of Battle Mountain. He is also survived by numerous cousins in northern Nevada.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Felix and Jose Maria and sister Natividad.

A rosary was held at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Battle Mountain on Thursday, May 31, at 7 p.m., with funeral services Friday, June 1, at 10 a.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Albertson Funeral Home of Winnemucca.

MR. DAVID ETCHART

wInnemucca cemetery David Etchart, 88, of McDermitt, entered into rest Sunday Morning Oct. 26, 2008, He is survived by his wife, Avelina, son David Etchart and daughter-in-law Pearl, daughter Darlene Albisu and son-in-law Frank Albisu, daughter Amorita Maher and son-in-law Steve Maher; grandchildren Michelle Etchart, Charonne Southerland, Nicholas Etchart, Stephanie Etchart, Melissa Etchart, Rich Albisu, Elaine Albisu, Mary Bengoa, Reme Huttman and Tim Maher; great-grandchildren Sean and Sam Bengoa, Lilly and Griz Southerland and Averi Albisu.

David was born in Golconda on April 26, 1920, and attended school in Golconda. He entered the service Feb. 18, 1942, and served on several fronts during World War II. He was discharged June 26, 1945, with, a Good Conduct Medal and the European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal.

David married Avelina Achabal Feb. 28, 1946, and has operated her family ranch since 1965. He and Avelina also operated a grocery store in McDermitt for a period of eight years, at which time, he became well trained in maintaining refrigeration units, an art he practiced for friends for many years after he moved to the ranch.

David was an avid sportsman throughout most of his life. His family was his greatest source of pride.

A Rosary will be celebrated Friday at 6 p.m. at Albertson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at the East Hall Convention Center on Saturday Nov. 1, 2008, at 11 a.m. with interment following at the Winnemucca Cemetery. A reception will be held at the East Hall following graveside services.

MRS. BARBARA H. EVANS

Barbara Helen Evans was an adventurous spirit who loved life and her family to the fullest. She tackled every challenge with amazing energy and optimism, and her unstoppable ambition inspired everyone around her. Barbara met every new person as a friend, with an open heart and genuine affection. She also met every new idea or challenge with lively curiosity and enthusiasm, including her first computer and taking flying lessons.

She encouraged her children and grandchildren to chase their dreams and did everything she could to help them achieve them. Along with being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Barbara was a dedicated school teacher in Imlay for 20 years teaching kindergarten through fifth grade, some years all in one classroom. She treated her students with respect and love, holding them to high expectations and always believing in them. Two of Barbara's students went on from her classroom to become Valedictorians at Lovelock High School. She kept in touch with her former students md by her retirement was beginning to teach a second generation of Imlay's children. Before her tenure in Imlay, Barbara was the Children's Librarian in Humboldt County and many young Winnemucca adults today were her story hour children.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ed Evans, daughters Jeannie, Kathy, Minda, Myrna and Nita, sons Ed, John, Louis, Ramon, Ray, Ato and Ador, brothers Pete, Skip and Bill and their families, nephew and nieces, Kenneth, Kelly and Kyrie, grandchildren Ray, Barbara, Chris, Mary, Joseph, Edward, Casey, Alex and Lily, and great-grandchildren Nicholas, Rayna and Kyra.

A celebration of Barbara's life wiU be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at United Methodist Church of Winnemucca at 138 W. Winnemucca Blvd. Her family welcomes all of her friends to come and share in our memories and love for Barbara.
