MRS. FLORENCE J. DOUGHTY
Born on a farm in Council, Idaho, on Aug. 10, 1915, Florence Jeanette Doughty's zest for living was one of the magic ingredients that contributed to her long and rich life of 92 years. She died peacefully on Jan. 19,2008.
Florence lived in Reno for the past 10 years after having spent 64 years in Winnemucca with her husband, Norman. She worked as a deputy assessor in the Humboldt County Assessor's office, and together they reared their three children. The last living member of her immediate family, she was pre-deceased by her husband, parents, Anna and Arthur Kidwell, and her seven brothers and sisters.
Florence is survived by the loves of her life: her sons and their wives, Tom and Carole Doughty, and Larry and JoAnn Doughty; her daughter, Dcanna Heller; her grandchildren and their spouses, Niki and Dan Schlehuber, and Steven and Jeneen Doughty; her four great grandchildren, Ryan and Anna Schlehuber, and Benjamin and Sydney Doughty; and a number of nieces and nephews and their children.
She was a woman who embraced life fully. She weathered the storms of a lifetime with great strength and stamina; all the while relishing the joys of the family she so loved. She noticed the details of things — the clouds and sunsets so much a part of Nevada life, the vibrant colors and delicacy of all flowers everywhere, the sensitive soul of a great grandchild.
Florence remained young in spirit and in style, and for all her personal graciousness; she had a feisty side that made her even more human and lovable, especially if you weren't on the receiving end. An intuitive woman, she never lost her concern for others despite her own health issues right up to the end. She had a certain spark that will live on in those who so loved her. It can truly be said that she was a remarkable woman of enduring significance a woman for all times.
A memorial services is planned for Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 1070 W. Plumb Lane in Reno.
The Florence Doughty Memorial Scholarship has been created with the Winnemucca Ladles Booster Club. Donations can be sent to 1240 Mizpah. Winnemucca, NV 89445.
