Chester Arthur Templer, superintendent of the city school of
Moline, was born at Howard, Kansas, February 7, 1882, son of George
Washington and Elizabeth Jane (Shedivetz) Templer. The father, a
native of Iowa, born March 11, 1854, died at Chanute, Kansas, in
February 1908. He was a farmer who homesteaded in Elk County. His
father was an Englishman. Elizabeth Jane Shedivetz was born in
Iowa, June 20, 1859, of Irish ancestry. She is still living.
Upon his graduation from rural school in 1900, Mr. Templer
taught for several years in the Elk County schools. He then entered
Kansas State Normal School from which he was graduated in 1916,
receiving a life diploma. He received the Bachelor of Science
degree from Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg in 1932.
He has been engaged in school work practically all his life.
On November 30, 1904, he was married to Pearl Victoria Shannon
at Howard. Mrs. Templer was born at Howard, May 24, 1886, of
Irish ancestry. There are three children, C. Adrian, born
December 23, 1905, who married Clara Wickstrom; W. Woodrow, born June
24, 1915; and C. Floyd, born December 22, 1921.
Mr. Templer is a member of the Kansas State Teachers
Association, the Kansas State High School Principals Association and
the Department of Secondary Principals of the National Education
Association. He is a member of the Red Cross, the Child Welfare
Association, the Chamber of Commerce, the Parent Teachers
Association and the Methodist Episcopal church. His
fraternal organizations include the Masons, the Rebekahs and the
Independent Order of Odd Fellows. His favorite sports are
horseshoes and checkers. (Photograph in Album)
