Clyde E. Shaffer, physician and surgeon in Kansas since 1912,
was born at Muncie, Indiana, September 24, 1876, son of John and Martha
(Taylor) Shaffer. The father, a farmer, was born in Wooster,
Ohio, and died at Muncie, Indiana, September 16, 1902. The mother
was born in Muncie, and died there on March 15, 1918.
Upon his graduation from country school, Clyde E. Shaffer
attended Washburn College at Topeka, and in 1912 received his medical
degree. He was married on October 8, 1898, to Margaret
Thomas at Topeka. She was born at Admire, Kansas, June 8, 1879,
the daughter of James A. and Maria (Atkinson) Thomas. The father was
born at Belvidere, Illinois, November 20, 1836 and died at Sheridan,
Wyoming in 1894. The mother was born at Montreal, Canada,
December 25, 1838, and died at Moline, Kansas, June 24, 1931. Mr. and
Mrs. Shaffer have two children, Carvel, born October 23, 1905; and
Marie, March 23, 1910.
Dr. Shaffer is a Republican. He is a member of the
American Medical Association and the Kansas State and Elk County
Medical Societies. During the late war he served as captain of
the Medical Corps, United States Army, and at the present time is a
captain in the Medical Officers Reserve Corps. He is a member of
the American Legion, the Methodist Episcopal church, the Mason, the
Woodmen of the WOrld and the Odd Fellows. (Photograph in Album).
