Charles G. Hayward, banker, was born in Elk City, Kansas, April
10, 1888, son of Oliver Thomas and Sarah Hardin (Gregory)
Hayward. Oliver Thomas Hayward was born in Taylorville,
Illinois, January 6, 1849. He came to Kansas in 1870, and settled
on a homestead in Montgomery County. Later he sold his homestead,
purchased a large ranch, and went into the cattle business. He
was president of the First National Bank at Elk City for about thirty
years, and at the present time has retired and is residing in Elk
City. His ancestry is traced to General Lee. His wife was
born November 18, 1854, in Indiana.
Mr. Hayward attended public and high school at Elk City, and on
September 15, 1910, was married to Cecile May Cox at Elk City, her
birthplace. She was born November 24, 1891, daughter of George E.
and Fannie A. (McDowell) Cox. They have one son, Don L., born
June 8, 1923. (Note: SSDI gives his birthdate as June 6, 1923)
At the present time Mr. Hayward is director of the First
National Bank of Moline, Kansas, and director of the First National
Bank of Elk City. He is cashier of the Home National Bank of
Longton. He is a Republican, a Mason, and an Odd Fellow.
His favorite sports are hunting and fishing.
