Adin Waldron Finley, legislator, was born in Kane County,
Illinois, September 25, 1866, son of Isaac and Celestia (Currier)
Finley. The father, a farmer and livestock dealer, was born in
Ohio, November 20, 1837, and died in Elk County, Kansas, May 28,
1916. His father was English, and his mother Pennsylvania Dutch.
Celestia Currier was born in New York State, February 12, 1839,
and died in Saline County, Kansas, March 28, 1919. She was a
teacher in her youth, and was of English descent on the father's side
and Irish on the mother's side.
Adin Waldron Finley attended country school and high school, and
for five years thereafter was a school teacher. Later he engaged
in farming and stock feeding, and thereafter became a dealer in
feed. He now operates a feed mill. Mr. Finley is a
Republican, and has served as township treasurer and trustee, elected
twice to that position with only one opposing vote the last time.
He is now serving as state senator. He is president of the Elk
Falls State Bank and superintendent of the Methodist Episcopal Sunday
School. From 1884 until 1886 Mr. Finley was a member of Company
C, 4th Kansas National Guard.
On July 21, 1891, he was married to Mary Ellen Parmley in
Chautauqua county. She was born in Wayne county, Kentucky, April
9, 1872. To them were born four children, Roy, May 1, 1891, who
was first married to Ruth Bird, and then to Ola Sprague; Beulah, July
11, 1897, who married John Ransom; Grace, March 15, 1900; Fred,
December 17, 1906, and Robert Earl, who died while an infant.
