Bishop Mead Edwards, was born in Coffey County, Kansas on
September 14, 1878, son of John Cram and Martha Jennie (cannon)
Edwards. His father was born in Hampshire County, Virginia, April
5, 1819 and died in Elk County, Kansas, February 20, 1903.
He was of Scotch-Irish extraction, a school teacher, a physician, and
in later life a farmer. His wife, Martha, was born in Hampshire
County on February 11, 1846, and died in Elk County, February 28,
1930. She was a homemaker and poet.
Bishop Mead Edwards attended Lone Star rural school and
for 20 years engaged in farming. For the past 12 years he has
been a real estate operator and broker. He is a Republican and at
the present time is trustee of the township board.
On September 12, 1900, he was married to Myrtle Flora Rice
at Fredonia, Kansas. She was born in Linn County, Kansas, August
26, 1879, her father of French and Scotch and her mother of German and
Irish descent. There is one daughter, Mildred Louise, born August
8, 1904, who was graduated from Longton High School in 1925 and from
the Independence, Kansas Business College in 1927. He is a
member of the Federated Church and during the years 1920-26 he was a
director of the Lone Star School Board. His hobby is Bible
teaching. He devotes much of his leisure time to reading.

Note: It is interesting how these two brothers, Bishop and
John, give different birth and death dates for their
father. The death date for their mother does not agree
