Memorial services for Edward C. Sanborn who passed away at his home Saturday afternoon, were held yesterday at 2:30 pm in the Graves Memorial Chapel with the Rev L E Dixon, officiating. Rev Dixon used for his scripture readings, Deut 34:1-8 and Rev. 21: 1-7, 10-27. His subject was “Faith and Hope Brighten the Way.” Rev. Dixon said in part:
“We assemble here today to share with this family their sorrow and loss. As we are admonished to do in the scriptures ‘to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep.’ While we experience sorrow, we sorrow not as those who have no hope for our God who created us and planned for our earthly pilgrimage has also planned for life to continue through eternity. There isn’t anything that will help us more as we journey along life’s way than a firm faith and hope in God’s promise of what awaits us at the end of the journey. It makes it easier to say goodby to parting loved ones and friends for we look forward to a reunion.”

Mrs. Sanborn, having developed a very bad cold was confined to her bed and unable to attend the services, but by the use of a microphone and loud speaker connected with the telephone line it was made possible for her to hear the services as plain as if she had been in attendance.

William Wesley Sanborn was born July 9, 1850.

He can truly be called a pioneer of Chautauqua county, although he was born in Ohio and grew to manhood near Brashear, Mo. It was there that he was married to Barbara Sleeth, November 16, 1871. He leaves to all that knew him the influence and memory of a life of services to his family and friends. While he and his life companion, who have lived together over sixty-four years, endured the pioneer life and have done their part in helping build a commonwealth out of the wilderness no doubt the pleasures far outweighed the hardships, and in the building they have had the satisfactions that they had done their part.

Mr. Sanborn accepted Christ and was baptized into the United Brethren church at Hurdland, Missouri, when he was 21 years of age. After coming to Chautauqua county he joined the Methodist faith and belonged to a class at Lowe, Kansas.
