Funeral Services For Amanda McAfee Held Mon., Feb. 25
Funeral services were held for Amanda McAfee, at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at the Baird Chapel, with the Rev. John Pruessner officiating. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery.
Mrs. McAfee was found dead in bed by a neighbor last Thursday morning. Feb. 21. She was born Jan 20, 1873, and for many years had been a resident of Sedan.
Those of the immediate relatives attending the services were two sons, Otis McAfee of Nephi, Utah, and M. D. McAfee and wife of Plainsville, Kans.; her daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Griffith, Cloquet, Minn. And her grandson and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Lee McAfee of Plainsville, Kans. One son, Bert McAfee and her brother Jim Mills who was ill, were unable to be present. She is also survived by three other grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Other relatives and close friends from out of town attending the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Wand and daughter of Copan, Okla.; Mrs. Johnny Straw of Bartlesville, Okla.; Mrs. Georgia Straw of Madison, Kans.; Mrs. James Vanderhoof of Ward, Ark.; Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Hurt of La Junta, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. James Hurt and family of Wichita, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. Bud Herard of Ponca City, Okla.; Joan Hurt of Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. Emery Temple of Longton, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. Willard Brewster, and Bert Stafford of Peru; Mrs. Nancy McAfee of Wichita; Mrs. Opal Adams of Pittsburg, Kans. And Mr. Eddie Jones of Ward, Ark.
E. L. McAfee, well known resident of the county, died at his home in Wauneta community Thursday, November 6th. The cause of his death was ulcers of the stomach, from which he had been a sufferer for the past two years. However he had been up and around until two days prior to his death. His age was 63 years, 10 months and 5 days.
Funeral service was held at the Buckles funeral home Friday afternoon, November 7th, at 3 p. m., conducted by Rev. Lawrence E. Griffith. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery.
Enoch Lewis McAfee was born January 1, 1867, near Fort Wayne, Indiana. He came to Chautauqua county with his parents in an early day settling near Grafton where he grew to Manhood.
He was married to Pink Mills, Nov. 15, 1891, and they have made their home in Chautauqua county with the exception of eight years when they resided near Newkirk, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his widow and eight children who were born to their union: Amos of Valley Center, Kans., Mrs. Mary Gates of Hewins, Kans., James, Elmer, Ralph, Paul, Mrs. Iva Cooper and Mrs. Georgia Stevens, all of Sedan.
Also left to mourn his death are his aged mother, Mrs. Lloyd Daniel; eleven grandchildren; three brothers and four sisters. John, Will and Sam, Mrs. Nora Sharp, Mrs. E. M. Burton, and Mrs. George Mills all of Sedan and Mrs. Charles Wands of Copan, Okla.; other relatives and a host of friends.
He was converted to the Baptist church in boyhood and remained a faithful member to the end.
MR. HERMAN E. MCAFEE
Herman E. McAfee, 83, of Coffeyville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.
Herman was born Dec. 9, 1924 in Winchester, Kan., the son of Lacy and Marie (Dixon) McAfee. He attended school at Valley Falls, Kan., until the age of 17, when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served our country from 1942 until 1946 as Gunner's Mate, Petty Officer 3rd Class.
On July 15, 1944, he married Esther Van Druff in Valley Falls, Kan. She survives.
Herman was employed as a Rancher working in Jefferson County, Madison, Longton, Sedan, and Independence, and Pawhuska, Okla., until his retirement 1997 when they moved to Caney.
Also surviving are his children, Gloria McAfee of Hugo, Okla., Richard McAfee of Caney, Kenneth McAfee of Madill, Okla., and Judith Whitson of Coffeyville; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and siblings James, Marge, Donald, Norma, Eldon, Russell, and Sharon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth.
Friends may call on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008 from noon until 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel where the family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m. that evening.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 at McLouth Cemetery in McLouth, Kan. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, 4th and Delaware, Tonganoxie, Kan.

MRS. LILLIAN W. (JUDY) MCAFEE
HOBBS, NM - Lillian Winfred (Judy) McAfee, age 89, died on Jan. 23, 2004 at the Hobbs Health Care Center in Hobbs, NM. Mrs. McAfee was an area resident since 1939, when she and her husband, Dale McAfee, moved from Sedan, Kan. to Hobbs.
Dale and Judy were married in Sedan, Kan. in 1932 and had two daughters before moving to New Mexico. Like many who migrated to New Mexico in that time, they were driven by economic factors. Hobbs was experiencing an oil related boom and work was hard to find in the waning days of the Great Depression.
A son was born to the couple in 1945 and together the family resided for many years in Eunice, NM. In that time, Eunice was a great family oriented community. Although Dale and Judy traveled and lived in south Texas for awhile after retirement, Mrs. McAfee always treasured her life in Eunice and considered it home.
Mrs. McAfee was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, and a daughter, Jean Swinney of Hobbs. She is survived by her daughter, Frances Dunaway of Eunice, NM and a son, John McAfee, Branson West, Mo., as well as several grand, great grand and great great grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Highland Baptist Church in Hobbs, NM, at 4 p.m. on Feb. 7, 2004.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR SAM McAFEE SUNDAY
Funeral services for Sam McAfee who died Friday, April 26th, were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Buckles Funeral home, conducted by Rev. Edwin G. Michael, pastor of the First Christian church of Sedan. Beautiful and appropriate music was furnished by a male quartet composed of Messrs. John Raybourn, Frank Harmon, R. L. Harmon and F. Ackarman, accompanied by Miss Mona Ackarman, pianist.
Mr. McAfee was born October 12, 1884, near Sedan, Kansas, and departed this life April 26, 1935. He had been complaining of ill health for a couple of weeks and died suddenly from a clot of blood in his circulatory system striking his heart.
He grew to manhood in Sedan and was united in marriage on Feb. 14th, 1906 to Miss Vellie [sic] (Villie) Doty. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Etta Anderson, Mrs. Verna Collins, Dale McAfee and Miss Bonnie McAfee all of Sedan. Besides these four children he leaves his aged mother, Mrs. Mary Daniels, one brother, John McAfee, and four sisters, Mrs. Alice Mills, Mrs. Nora Sharp and Mrs. Tillie Burton of Sedan, and Mrs. Dollie Wand of Copan, Okla. Also eight grandchildren.

William Amos McAfee, 80, died March 15 at the Sedan City hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Graves-Baird chapel in Sedan. Interment was in the Greenwood cemetery.
He was born June 10, 1893 to Enoch and Pink (Mills) McAfee at Sedan. He was a life-time resident of Sedan.
He was married to Lena M. Harmon in 1947 in Wichita. He was a veteran of WWI, Company D. 129 Infantry, former Masonic Lodge, charter member of the Doy Moore American Legion, member of the Baptist Church, and served with the Sedan police force for a number of years.
Survivors are his wife of the home, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Gates of Wichita and Mrs. Iva Straw of Bartlesville; four brothers, James of Tucson, Ariz., Elmer of Chandler, Tex., and Paul and Ralph both of Sedan.

William Marvin McAfee was born near Sedan, Kansas, at the old family home place November 15, 1876. He lived in and near Chautauqua county most of his life. He died September 24 at 3:15 at his home.
He was united in marriage March 20, 1907, to Ida M. Burdick of Columbus, Kansas. To this union nine children were born.
He had been in failing health for the past five years but only became seriously ill two weeks prior to his death. He was a devoted husband and a kind and loving father and was liked and respected by all who knew him.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and nine children, Mrs. Theodore McElmurry of Raton, New Mexico; Mrs. Chester Hogan of Longton, Kansas; Earl, Carl, Russell, Lena, June, Lloyd and Betty, all of the home address. He also leaves to mourn, his aged mother, Mrs. Mary Daniels of Sedan, Kansas; four sisters, Mrs. Tillie Burton, Mrs. Nora Sharp and Mrs. Geo. Mills, all of Sedan and Mrs. Dolly Wands of Copan, Oklahoma. He leaves two brothers, John of Grafton and Sam of Sedan. Two brothers and five sisters preceded him in death, Enoch having passed away some four years ago and the other two in infancy. He also leaves to mourn his loss four grandsons and a host of other relatives and friends.
G.E., as he was sometimes known, was born on June 2, 1923, to Johnnie Sheridan and Hazel Dorothy (Chase) McAlister at their home in Belknap.
As a child, Gerald walked two miles each day to attend Belknap Grade School. He attended high school in Moline where he graduated in 1941. During the years, he acquired the nickname “Slim” while playing football at Moline High School.
On February 12, 1942, Lincoln’s Birthday, he married Betty Lorene Ward at Sedan, and to this union was born two daughters, Sharlyn and Connie. They made their home on what people knew as the Patton Ranch, where Gerald and his family resided and ranched for 52 years.
Rodeo was a major part of Gerald’s life. He served as President of the Sedan Round-Up Club from 1956-1967 and once again in 1971. Throughout the years, he could be found at the Moline Rodeo as barrier flagman.
He was known for his calf and team roping abilities and was one of the first cowboys to partner with an African-American, One Brown. He and Gerald made a great team and won many events. Many stories were made from this partnership.
Raising cattle was his livelihood and he also dabbled in sheep and hogs for several years. He enjoyed his horses, each of which had their purpose whether it be coyote hunting, rodeo, or for ranch work.
Wild tales have been told of his greyhound dogs and coyote hunting days. You could also find Gerald in the oil field until he broke his hip in 2001 and moved his residence to the Elk Manor Nurshing Home.
He is survived by his daughter, Connie Hey and Shariyn McAlister, both of Moline; his sister, Mable Kinnamon of Louisburg, Kan.; two grandchildren, Dala Ramsey and Brad Hey, both of Augusta, Kan., and one great granddaughter, Kayla Rene Ramsey.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; an infant son, Royce Eugene; his parents; a brother, Harold Joe and two sisters, lona and Gladys.
Funeral services were held at 2p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard with Pastor Robin Haines of the Flint Hills Assembly of God officiating. Interment was held at Belknap Cemetery in Belknap, Kan.
A memorial has been established with the Belknap Community Fund. Contributions may be left with the funeral home. The funeral arrangements were made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
MRS. HAZEL D. MCALISTER - Submitted by L. Morgan
Independence Reporter MOLINE-- Hazel Dorothy McAlister, 74, died April 4 at Twilight Manor Nursing Home in Howard.
She was born June 6, 1901 at Wichita, Iowa to Charles and Margaret Chase. She moved to Attica, Kan. While a child and later to Belknap community.
She married John McAlister on March 1, 1922 at Howard. She was a housewife and Sunday school superintendent at the Belknap Methodist church for years.
Her husband, John, preceded her in death Oct. 11, 1975. Two children also preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald and Harold Joe, Moline; one daughter, Mabel Kinnaman, Cedarvale, Kan; one brother, Everett Chase of Hoisington; two sisters, Lillie Vanderhoof, Moline, Lula Jones of Caney; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday in the chapel of the Watt Funeral Home of Moline with Harold Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Belknap Cemetery.
A memorial with the Heart Fund has been established and contributions may be left at the funeral home or the First National Bank in Sedan.
BELKNAP CEM MR. MELVIN F. MCALISTER
Melvin Franklin McAlister, age 75, a resident of Moline passed away Monday May 4, 2009 at his home in Moline.
He was born Jan. 12, 1934 in Moline, the son of Ralph and Bessie McAlister.
Melvin was a graduate of Elk Falls High School. He also served his country in the United States Army. After his service in the Army, Melvin spent his working years as a farmer. On Oct. 18, 1969 Melvin was united in marriage to Judith Ann Donohue and they later divorced.
Melvin is survived by one son Aaron McAlister of Winfield, one daughter Rebecca McAlister of Wichita, five sisters; Mary Ann Osborn, Wanda McAlister, Karen Hey, Phyllis Hawkins, and Helen Yokum, and two grandchildren Derek and Marissa McAlister.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Darlene, and two brothers Darrell and Wilson.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 8, 2009 at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard with Pastor Robin Haines officiating. Interment was at Belknap Cemetery.

Funeral services for Beverly Kay McCall, 2, who died Feb. 8 at the Sedan City hospital were held at the Miles Funeral home chapel in Cedar Vale on Wednesday with Rev. James Goss officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Vale cemetery.
Beverly Kay was born Feb. 17, 1968 at Sedan to Johnny and Sharon Bohannan McCall.
Survivors in addition to her parents include the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Eileen McCall of Marquette; maternal grandparents , Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bohannan of Spring Hill; paternal great grandmother Mrs. Alma Hollister, of Wichita; maternal great grandparents Mrs. Martha Bohannan and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McAfee, all of Cedar Vale.

James D. McCall 73, of Caldwell, Kan., passed away Saturday morning, Jan, 8, 2011, at Via Christi/St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

B. F. McCLAIN DIES.
B. F. McClain, aged 73 years, died at his home southeast of Peru Friday evening, death being caused by a heart attack. Funeral services were held at Elcado chapel Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. B. Brown of Oswego, with interment at Elcado cemetery.
The deceased is survived by his wife, four daughters, two sons and a number of grand children and great grandchildren. The daughters are Mrs. William Stutsman and Mrs. Nell Gorby of Peru, Mrs. Clarence McLaughlin of. Muskogee, Mrs. Carl Hammond of Oklahoma City. The sons are George and Herman of Muskogee.
Mr. McLain had lived on the same farm for 35 years.
The Baird Funeral Home was in charge.

EMMA S. McCLAIN
In memory of our beloved Mother and Grandmother who departed this life at her home in Peru at 3:30 o’clock Saturday morning, December 24, 1949, following an illness of three weeks. Her entire life had been on spent in our home community.
She was born at Glen Center, Michigan, August 25, 1861, the daughter of Roda and Fred Carey. The family moved to the Peru community when she as four years of age, and was regarded as one of the pioneer families of Chautauqua county.
On February 4, 1883 she and Benjamin F. McClain were united in marriage at Peru. He passed away November 10, 1933.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Carl Humbred, Bethany,Okla., Mrs. Nellie Gorby and Mrs William Stutsman, Peru, Kans. And Mrs. Vella McLaughlin, Ellinwood, Kans.; one son, G. W. McClain, Gladewater, Texas; twenty grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. One son, Herman, preceded her in death February 14, 1938.
Memorial services were conducted at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, in the Peru Methodist church, with Rev. J. B. Brown and Rev. C. E. Nash officiating.
Reverend Brown used Gal. 4: 4-5-7 as his text and said, in part:
"Mrs. McClain lived a Christian life and family has the comfort knowing she will be rewarded.
"When the fullness of the time came, God sent for His son, born under to the law that we might receive the adoption children of God.
"Let us consider the word ‘adoption.’ It is the foundation of the thought we are to think about today. Being children of God we are under the Father’s protection. ‘My sheep hear my voice and follow me and no man can pluck them out of my Father’s hand.’ ‘In my Father’s house are many mansions.’ ‘After our new home we are rewarded a new body.’
A mixed quartet, Mrs. Chester Reed, Mrs. Earl Huckstep, C. E. Nash and Robert Sherwood furnished the songs.
Casket bearers were C. O. Lamb, F. L Tull, H. Endicott, E. E. Brooks, William Alford, and Bert Webster.
Interment was in the family plot in El Cado cemetery.
MR. HOWARD A. MCCAMMON - Submitted by Ilene Mullendore Butler
Services for Howard A. McCammon. 66, will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the Graves Memorial Chapel in Caney, Kan., with the Rev. Mike Morris and Pastor Bill Stutts officiating. Burial will be in the Havana Cemetery in Havana, Kan.
Born December 25, 1930 in Grenola, Kan., he died Friday morning at his home.
He was the son of Howard G. and Ruby (Evans) McCammon. He was raised in Grenola and later moved to Caney with his family. He attended Caney schools and graduated from Caney High School.
On Nov. 22, 1950, he married Vivian Howell in Bentonville, Ark., and later moved to Caney. He worked as an assistant supervisor in the Records Center for Corporate Services at Phillips Petroleum Co. in Bartlesville. He retired in 1984 after 35 years of service.
He was a past member of the Nazarene Church and belonged to the Phillips Men’s Club and the Falcon Club of Bartlesville. His hobbies included photography and motorcycle riding.
Survivors include his wife. Vivian of the home: two sons, Tony and Jimmie, both of Caney; two daughters. Lucille Etter and Linda Collins, both of Bartlesville; a sister, Bonnie S. Levan of Caney: six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Byrle G.
Visitation hours will be Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.. Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Graves Funeral Chapel in Caney.
The family has suggested a memorial to the Caney Fire Department or the Caney Police Department. Memorials may be left with the funeral home.
Well Known Sedan Lady Departed This Life Last Thursday.
Mrs. Hattie McCann wife of Warren McCann, departed this life at her home in Sedan Thursday, February 1st, aged 51 years, 3 months and 5 days. She had been in failing
health for a long period.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church of Sedan Sunday, February 4, at 2:30 p. m., conducted by Rev. J. Wayne Pinson. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Miss Anna Casement, Miss Lucile Vickers, W. D. Kinnaman and Darrel Floyd; also a vocal solo by Mrs. Dwyre Hays. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery with the Baird Funeral Home in charge.
Hattie Elizabeth Wells was born In Atchinson, Kansas October 26, 1882. She moved with her parents to Chautauqua county in 1896 where she had resided since that time. She was married to Warren N. McCann February 1, 1899.
She is survived by her husband; one son, Ora McCann of Sedan; five daughters Mrs. Dola Shinn of Elgin; Mrs. Edith Hunter of Wichita; Miss Lorene, Miss Frances and Miss Helen, at home. Three grandchildren, Jimmy Lou McCann and Peggy Joan and Bobby Warren Shinn. Her mother Mrs. J. W. Wells of Sedan; two sister, Mrs. George Brown and Mrs. Dave Brown, both living near Sedan. Five brothers J. S., J. A. and J. L. Wells, all living near or in Sedan; Ervin Wells of Wauneta and Charles Wells, living in Oregon. Many other relatives and friends mourn her passing.
Her father and two sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. McCann was a respected and honored member of the Baptist church of Sedan.
MR. JOHN E. MCCANN
FREEPORT, Texas - John E. McCann, 62, of Freeport, Texas, formerly of Sedan, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at his home in Freeport after a short illness.
He was born April 7, 1942 in Sedan to Kenneth and Mildred (Stafford) McCann. He grew up in Sedan and attended Sedan schools graduating from Sedan High School in 1961. In the late 1960’s, he moved to Texas where he worked as a heavy equipment crane operator.
In 1961, he married Carolyn Jo Goode at Sedan, they were later divorced.
John was a member of the Redman’s Lodge in Freeport, Texas, and loved his daily coffee at Scotties in Freeport.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, William “Bill” and Coleen McCann, Brazoria, Texas, and John Russell “Rusty” and Sylvia McCann, Freeport, Texas; one brother and sister-inlaw, Ronald and Pat McCann, Sedan, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Jacqueline Lobdell, John Russell McCann, Jr., who is serving in Iraq, Tia Lee McCann, William Blake McCann, Russell Eugene McCann, Robert Keith McCann, and Jamie Dale McCann; two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Linda Jean McCann, in Nov. 1969.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, with Rev. Dois Nix, Chaplain of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating.

MR. JOSHUA J. MCCANN
Joshua James McCann, age 27, of Yates Center, Kan., died Saturday evening, May 16, 2009 as a result of an automobile accident near Altoona.
He was born May 29,1981 in Winfield to Keith McCann and Mary (Miller) Reeves. He attended school at the Central-Burden High School. He later received his GED. He married Tiffany McCann and they later divorced. He worked as a pipeline fitter for BRB Contractors in Topeka until the time of his death. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and fishing.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Mary and Roger Reeves of Altamont, Kan.; his father and step-mother, Keith and Nancy McCann of Oxford, Kan.; two sons, Braxton McCann of Winfield, and Kollyn McCann of Yates Center, Kan.; one daughter, Kyndel McCann of Winfield; three brothers, Robert and his wife Alisha of Altoona, Kan., Adam Reeves and his wife Grace, and Joe Langhorst; two sisters, Bobbi Reeves and Charlett Moser; maternal grandparents, Frank and Vera Mae Miller of Sedan and Nellie Reeves of Winfield; and his girlfriend Lindsey Ellis.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Justin McCann who passed away in 2007.
Cremation has taken place and friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesday May 19 through Thursday, May 21 and from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, May 22, 2009 at the David Wr. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.

MR. JUSTIN K. MCCANN
Justin Keith McCann, age 23, of Winfield, passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2007 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
He was born Sept. 7, 1984 in Winfield to Keith and Mary (Miller) McCann. He lived in the Oxford area all of his life. He attended school at the Oxford High School in Oxford. He was an oil field driller for B and S Well Service.
He loved hunting, fishing and also enjoyed riding bulls.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Mary and Roger Reeves of Yates Center; his father and step-mother Keith and Nancy McCann of Oxford; his girlfriend, Jacque Weaver of the home in Winfield; two daughters, Destiny and Alexis McCann, both of the home in Winfield; his maternal grandparents, Frank and Vera Miller of Sedan, and Nellie Reeves of Winfield; two brothers, Robert McCann of Chanute, and Joshua McCann of Winfield; one sister, Charlett Morley of Clarksville, Tenn., and numerous aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Carol McCann.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 at the shelter house in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, with Reverend Jerry Bever of the Sedan United Methodist Church officiating.

MRS. KATRINA MCCANN
Katrina McCann, age 62, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Sedan, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008 in Dallas,Texas.
She was born Nov. 28, 1945 in Wellington, Kan., to Elmer Floyd and Hazel Jeane (Evams) McCann. She graduated from Sedan High School. She received her Bachelor's Degree in General Studies from Pittsburg State University. She married Jim Filch and they later divorced. She moved to Dallas, Texas, living there for twenty-five years.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sedan and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. She enjoyed going to Las Vegas and visiting the casinos.
She is survived by her mother, Jeane McCann of Sedan; one son, Todd Fitch and his wife Katie of Athens, Ala.; four grandchildren, Steven, Bradley, Danielle and Victoria; two brothers, Dean McCann of Sedan and Kent McCann of Bartlesville, Okla,, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer F. McCann, uho passed away Feb. 27, 2008 and twin sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Sedan with Dr. J. Dean McNamara officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.

MR. KENNETH C. MCCANN
Kenneth Clem McCann, age 84, of Sedan, Kansas, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2000, at his home in Sedan. He was born February 20, 1916 north of Sedan, KS to Elmer and Nettie (Wells) McCann. He was a retired Maintenance Engineer for the Sedan school system and also worked for Tru-Flavor Dairy and Steffen's.
On August 7, 1937 at Broomall, PA, he and Eva Mildred Stafford were united in marriage. They moved back to Sedan in 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, wife and one daughter.
Survivors include two sons, John McCann and wife, Reta, Freeport, TX and Ron McCann and wife, Pat, Sedan, KS, five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at 2:00 p.m. in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, KS. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery. Rev. Larry Bowyer of the Sedan United Methodist Church officiated. Graves-Baird Funeral Home of Sedan, KS was in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials in his name have been established with the Sedan EMS or the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society. Any contributions may be left at the funeral home.
MR. RONNIE l. MCCANN
Ronald L. "Ronnie" McCann, age 69, of Sedan, passed away Tuesday evening, July 15, 2008 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan.
He was born January 6,1939 in West Chester, Penn., to Kenneth C. and Mildred (Stafford) McCann. He attended and graduated from Sedan High School in 1958. He served in the United States Navy.
On Sept. 13,1958 he married Pat Mays in Boise, Idaho. He worked as a butcher at Todd's Quality Meats and Cheese in Sedan from 1956 to 1986. He later worked at D & D Osage Meats in Ponca City, Okla., from 1991 until he retired in 2003.
He was a volunteer firefighter in Sedan for many years and was a member of the Kansas Meat Processors Association and Past President of the Sedan Round-Up Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and raising Greyhounds for coyote hunting.
He is survived by his wife Pat McCann of Sedan; one son, Kenny McCann and his wife Paula of Newkirk, Okla.,; two daughters, Rhonda Cox and her husband Tim of Sedan, and Diana Brooks and her husband Rick of Sedan; six grandchildren; one step-grandson; one step-granddaughter; three greatgrandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren .
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John and one sister, Linda.
Memorial graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan with Reverend Jerry Bever of the First United Methodist Church officiating.

C. Ione McCarty, age 98 of Sedan passed away peacefully, Monday, May 21, 2007 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan.
She was born Nov. 21, 1908 on the Emmett Obenchain Farm in the Floyd School district near Wauneta to Claude and C. Geneva (Alan) Myers. She attended and graduated from Sedan High School in 1928. She married George F. McCarty on Nov. 5, 1930 in Rogers, Kan., which is located in rural Sedan. She worked as an Administrator for fifteen years at the Teague Nursing Home in Sedan. After her retirement, she worked as a home healthcare provider.
She was a member of the Church of Christ of Sedan and the Red Cross Blood Drive.
She is survived by one son, Danny Eugene Myers of Joshua, Texas; one daughter, Jeanette Kay Myers of Sedan; one brother, Wylie Myers of Sedan, and one sister, Joyce Mattox of Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Wayland Myers and one sister, June.

Funeral services for Thomas Jerrell McCarty, age 78, of Chickasha, Okla., were held at 2 p.m. on Thesday, July 24, 2007, at the Southern Oaks Church of Christ. Steve Parker officiated and Jim Sheerer assisted.
Thomas Jerrell McCarty was born the son of Jim McCarty and Corda Barbee McCarty on May 5, 1929, in Pernell, Okia. He died on July 21, 2007, in Chickasha.
Jerrell attended Red Top one room. school through the 4th grade. He then attended 5th through the 12th grade at Pernell, graduating from Pemell High School in 1947. After graduation, Jerrell worked for Skelly Oil Company, in Velma, Okla.
On June 18, 1954, Jerrell married Royce Yvonne Helvey, in Pernell. In 1956, he began working for the Rock Island Oil Company, later known as Koch industries of Wichita. He was transferred to Sedan in 1958, where he retired from Koch Industries in 1990 after 35 years of service.
While living in Sedan, Jerrell owned the J and J Western Store for several years and served on the City Council. He was also a member of the Sedan Lions Club, Sedan Round Up Club, and the Jayhawker Sam’s RV Club.
Jerrell’s hobbies were fishing, hunting, wood working, reading, and gardening. Roses were his specialty. Jerrell loved going on bus tours, visiting and meeting people, and making new friends. He enjoyed telling stories and singing songs to his grandchildren, and anyone else who would listen.
Jerrell and Yvonne moved to Chickasha in September of 2002, after spending 44 years in Sedan. Jerrell became a Christian at the age of 15, and was a member of Southern Oaks Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Hazel and Lena, and one brother, Wayne.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne McCarty of the home; daughter and husband, Karen and Randy Davis of Copan, Okla.; daughter and husband, Mary Ann and Jerry McLemore of Ninnekah, Okla.; sister, Jane Pemberton of Duncan, Okla.; granddaughter, Shelly McLemore of Shawnee, Okla.; granddaughter and husband, Ashley and Sam Rayburn of Santa Clara, Calif.; grandson, Kyle Davis of Chickasha; granddaughter Kelly Davis of Copan; grandsons Chance and Chad McLemore of Ninnekah; great-grandsons Ty and Cade Rayburn of Santa Clara.

MRS. ANNA J. MCCORMAC
Anna Jean McCormac, age 86, of Sedan, passed away Saturday evening Sept. 19, 2009 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan.
She was born July 17,1923 in Chautauqua to Joseph Franklin and Bessie (Dyer) Jones. She attended and graduated from Chautauqua High School.
She worked at the clothing factory in Pawhuska, Okla., for many years as a sewing machine operator. She married William Niblack and they had two sons, Billy Gene and Arthur Dean Niblack, which both died at a very young age. They later divorced in 1969.
On Feb. 17, 1970 she married John McCormac in Bartlesville, Okla. Years later they moved to Pleasant Valley Manor. John went home to be with the Lord on March 17, 2000.
Anna remained at her home at Pleasant Valley Manor with all of her friends and caregivers. She at sometime or other gave them all a bad time but all at the same time she loved them as they did her. They were all family to her.
She is survived by three stepdaughters, and several nieces and nephews, and all Of her caregivers and friends at Pleasant Valley Manor.
She loved sewing and loved playing bingo with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her two sons, Billy Gene and Arthur Dean Niblack. her parents, husband John McCormac, three brothers, two sisters, two nephews, two stepdaughters, and two stepsons.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Chautauqua, with Earl Tresner officiating.

Ella McClain was born in Miama county, Indiana, July 20, 1854. She came with her parents to Elgin, Kas., in 1870 and in 1877 moved to Sedan, where she lived until her death, which occurred at the old home in Sedan on the 6th day of September, 1912. She never married, but devoted her life to her mother and father until the death of her mother some years ago. She then took care of her father until his death, about three weeks before her death. Her whole life was devoted to her father, mother, and brother. She was 58 years, 1 month and 17 days old at the time of her death.
The funeral services were held at the home on Saturday, September 7th, conducted by Rev. J. D. McBrian, after which she was laid to rest in Greenwood cemetery.
She leaves surviving one sister, Mrs. W. S. Laird of Sunny Side, Idaho and two brothers, F. G. McClain of Hazelton, Kansas and Jason McClain of Sedan, Kansas. She was a member of the Presbyterian church at Sedan and an exemplary Christian woman, loved and respected by all who knew her.
MR. KENNETH A. MCCOMAS, II
CEDAR VALE - Kenneth A. McComas, II, 31, of Cedar Vale, Kan. died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2004, west of Sedan.
He was born Aug. 27, 1973 at Columbus, Ohio to Kenneth A. and Rebecca (Thompson) McComas. He moved to Cedar Vale, Kan. with his family in 1980, where he attended Cedar Vale Schools and later attended SEK Area Vo Tech in Coffeyville.
He was employed as a construction worker by Fulsom Construction Company in Cedar Vale.
Survivors include two sons, Eric and Joshua McComas, and two daughters, Nikki and Emily McComas, all of Cedar Vale; his parents Kenneth and Rebecca McComas of Caney, Kan., and two sisters, Christina Hickman, Cedar Vale and Alisha McComas, Caney.

CANEY, Kan. - Kenneth A. McComas, 55, of Caney died early Monday morning, Sept. 19, 2005, at his home in Caney.
He was born June 2, 1950 at Ceredo, West Va. to Walter and Velma (Madden) McComas. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio, where he received his education.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam era.
On July 27, 1971, he married Rebecca Thompson at Columbus, Ohio. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Columbus area. They moved to Cedar Vale in 1980, where they made their home until moving to Caney in 2002.
Mr. McComas was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Dewey, Okla.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca, of the home in Caney; two daughters, Christina Hickman, Cancy, and Alisha Spears, Louisa, Ky.; four brothers, Lee McComas, Ronald McComas, and Herb McComas, of all Columbus, Ohio, and Charles McComas, Arizona; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth A. McComas II on Sept. 4, 2004, and his parents.

MR. REX W. MCCONNELL
Rex Willard McConnell, 78, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005. He was born March 30, 1927 at Minneola, Kan., where he spent his youth and graduated from Minneola High School. He joined the Navy at age 17 and was in the Seabees stationed on Guam.
He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1951 and was football All-CIC Conference fullback. He coached high school football, basketball, baseball and track at Grinneli, Hill City and Sedan, Kan. He was coach at Sedan from 1957-1962. He then moved to Salina and was an insurance Claims Adjuster for Farm Bureau for 25 years. His retirement years were spent enjoying golf at the Elks Country Club.
Rex McConnell was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Cleo (Christison) McConnell, brother, Vernon, sister, Ann Anna Brungardt, a daughter, Marilyn McConnell and a grandson, Jeremy Boyles.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, four daughters, Toni Dugan and husband, Michael, Topeka, Kan., Sandra Miller and husband, John, Salina, Kan., Kathy Cox, Kansas City, and Karen Boyles and husband, Wayne, Salina, Kansas, 10 grandchildren and and eight great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, in Salina, Kan. at the University United Methodist Church, 1509 S. Santa Fe, Salina, Kan., with the Rev. David Bolz conducting the service. Burial will follow at the Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina.

Raymond McQuerry Dead
Raymond, the 9 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe McQuerry, who live on Mr. P. F. Eggens farm (the old Leniton ranch) died Sunday after a weeks illness with spinal meningitis. It was a first pronounced pneumonia but later development revealed the meningitis symptoms which are so much dreaded.
Because of the nature of the disease only a short funeral service was held at the Round Mound cemetery where interment was made. The boy was a bright, lovable little fellow and his death has brought great grief into the home Mr. and Mrs. McQuerry who have the sympathy of their may friends in their bereavement.

MRS. VIRGINIA N. MCCULLEY
Virginia N. McCulley age 85 passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover, Kan.
Virginia was born in Wayside, Kan., on Nov. 29,1923, to Roy Lincoln and Vida Naomi May (Hadley) Furnas.
Virginia was from Elk City then moved to Bartlesville, Okla., where she lived for over 20 years. She lived in Howard for 8 years, and moved to Wichita in 2002.
On Dec. 4, 1947, in Independence, Kan., Virginia married Charles E. McCulley Jr., they were married for 58 years until his death of Feb. 3, 2006.
Virginia loved to travel, she enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and visiting casinos, which she just returned from Las Vegas this past November. She also enjoyed embroidery work and cooking. Virginia was known as a good cook and made the best rolls and homemade noodles. She was a loving grandmother and will be greatly missed by all of her family.
Virginia is survived by two sons Rex McCulley of Wichita, Charles McCulley III of Onaga, Kan.; two daughters Sandra Dunham of Wichita, Charlotte Rowe of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters Marcillee Wilkinson of Bartlesville, Okla., Karen Sailor of Nevada, Mo.; seven grandchildren Carol, Cheryl, Carrie, Cathryn, Charlie, Emily, and Barbara; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by, parents, husband Charles, two brothers and three sisters. Graveside services were held Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City with Pastor Terry Marta officiating.

MRS. DONNA M. MCDERMOTT
CEDAR VALE, Kan. - Donna Maurine McDermott, age 86, of Cedar Vale, Kan., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at the Cedar Vale Community Hospital. She was born Jan. 17, 1917 in Berlin, Okla. Her parents were Brook and Edith (Deskin) Pontius. She was raised in Lawrence, Kan., graduating from Lawrence High School and received a secretarial business degree from Kansas University. She later received her Registered Nurse training from UMKC Medical Hospital, formerly General Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She had worked at Menorah Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. and Fulton State Hospital #1 in Fulton, Mo., where she was supervisor of Boys and Girls Recovery.
She married Dr. Bernard McDermott, DDS, in 1940. They lived in Aruba from 1948-1960. Bernard preceded her in death in 1964.
She was a member of the Catholic Church and had been active in several churches. Her last membership was in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Arkansas City, Kan.
She is survived by one son, Dr. James McDermott, Cedar Vale, Kan., daughters Dennis Kathleen “Deni” Lehman, Kansas City, Mo., Donna “Deda” Cochran, New Jersey and Kansas City, Mo., seven grandchildren and one great grandson. Her son Timothy, brother, Chick Pontius and sister, Thelma Williams, preceded her in death.
A Rosary was held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 233,2003, at the Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale. Interment was at 12 noon on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, Kan.

MRS. GERALDINE A. MCDOWELL
SEDAN, Kan. - Geraldine Anita McDowell, 83, of Sedan, Kan. died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Pleasant Valley Manor. She was a lifetime resident of Chautauqua County.
She was born Oct. 24, 1920 in Sedan to Fred W. and Neoma V. (Edwards) Hosmer. She grew up and attended school in Chautauqua County.
She married Orville G. McDowell on March 28, 1942 in Chautauqua, Kan. Following their marriage, they made their home in Sedan, where Mr. McDowell worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He preceded her in death on October 18, 1989.
She was a member of the Sedan First Christian Church, a homemaker, a doll collector and quilter.
She is survived by a son, Robert L. McDowell, Astoria, NY, a daughter and son-in-law, Linda F. and Dean Brooks, Hugoton, Kan., a sister and brother-in-law, Madeline E. and Ralph Tresner, Sedan, Kan., three grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren, one great-greatgrandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and graveside inurnment services will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery at Sedan.

MR. WILLIAM P. MCLAIN - Submitted by Charlotte Lamb Bennett
William P. McClain was born May 10, 1828, in Ohio, and died in Sedan ,August 17, 1912. On September 26, 1846, he was married to Catherine Lower of Connersville, Indiana, and to them five children were born, three boys and two girls. The four now living are Mrs. Martha Laird, of Sunnyside, Idaho; Frank McClain of Hazelton, Kansas; and Jason McLain and Miss Ella McLain of this city with whom he made his home since his wife died five years ago last April. They moved to Sedan to the home where they now live and he engaged in the blacksmith business. He was in the blacksmith business until about ten years ago when he began to fail in health and since that time he hasn’t done any work.
He was a member of the M. E. church and was a good Christian man. His health has been failing for several years but he was bedfast only two days and his death was caused from heart trouble and old age. He passed away at 12 o’clock noon Saturday, August 17, 1912.
The funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock, conducted by Rev. F. R. Smith and the remains were laid to rest in Greenwood cemetery.

Mrs. M. McClanahan Succumbs at Tyro Nov. 4—(Special)—Mrs. M. McClanahan, 62, wife of a retired Missouri Pacific section foreman and for many years a resident of Tyro, died in her home here at 1:16 o'clock this afternoon, following an extended illness.
Besides her husband, Mrs. McClanahan is survived by three sons, Harry McClanahan of Longton, Fred McClanahan of Arkansas City and Roy McClanahan of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Mrs. C. E. Pinnell and Mrs. W. P. Newkirk of Independence and Mrs. Ethel Yates of Tyro; sister, Mrs. Sam Robinette of Coffeyville, and three brothers, Gene Lyons of Lowell, Kan., Charles Lyons of Joplin, Mo., and Tom Lyons living in Mexico. Several grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. tomorrow in the Tyro Methodist Episcopal church, and will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. John J. R. Held, and Rev. W. A. Terry of Independence, former pastor of the Church of the Nazarene here. Interment will be in Mount Hope cemetery at Independence. The body was removed to the Joe Cardiner funeral home at Caney, but was to be returned to the McClanahan home here tonight, to remain until the hour of the services tomorrow.

was received here of the death at 9 o’clock this morning of Mitchal W. McClanahan, 72, veteran Missouri Pacific employee who succumbed in the Missouri Pacific General hospital in St. Louis, Mo., as the result of a heart disorder.
Mr. McClauahan, who was born at St. Geneva, Mo., June 29, 1861 entered the Missouri Pacific’s service as a laborer on the Northern division April 1, 1887, and was promoted to a foremanship February 28, 1888. He was transferred to Tyro in 1918, and served as section foreman there until his retirement July 1, 1931.
Surviving relatives include three daughters. Mrs. W. T. Newkirk and Mrs. C. H. Pinnell, both of Independence, and Mrs. Ethel Yates of Tyro, and three sons, Harry of Longton, Fred of Arkansas City and Roy McClanahan of Glendale, Calif. Mrs. MeClanahan died at Tyro several weeks ago.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, although relatives today believed services would be held in Independence.
M. W. MeClanahair Is Dead.
Mitchell W. McClanahan, 72, retired Missouri Pacific section foreman, died Wednesday in the Missouri Pacific hospital in St. Louis, following a long illness. Mr. McClanahan started working for the Missouri Pacific April 1, 1887, and was promoted to a foremanahip — February 28, 1888. He became section foreman here in 1918 and was retired July 1, 1931. Funeral services, in charge of Rev. W. A. Terry of Independence, former pastor of the Nazarene church here, was held Friday afternoon in the Methodist Episcopal church. Burial was in Mount Hope cemetery at Independence.

He was born February 20, 1927 at Dennis, Kan. to Floyd Calvin and Mabel Pearl (Erwin) McClenning. He grew up in the rural Independence area until he was fifteen and moved to Parsons, where he lived with his grandparents. He attended school until the 11th grade in Parsons, when he lied about his age and joined the U.S. Army Air Corp.
During WWII, he was severely shocked while working on a radio tower. After recuperating in a Tokyo hospital, he was sent back into service. Shortly after returning to active duty, he was aboard a B-52 that went into the ocean.
On February 10, 1950, he married Carol Ellen Thompson at Independence. They were later divorced. In 1969, he married Dorothy Trout Cramer. They separated in 1988.
Mr. McClenning worked in a service station, the stockyards, farmed and for the last twenty years while living in the Sedan area, he did odd jobs, operated a lawn service and raised dairy goats and other small farm animals.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Johnson, Sedan, Mary Vestal, Longton, and Norma Faler, Sedan, one sister, Betty Cain, Independence, one brother, Chuck McClenning, rural Coffeyville, and five grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister.
A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Sedan Senior Citizens Center. David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan was in charge of the arrangements.
MRS. MARGARET MCCLOUD
Margaret McCloud, age 94, of Sedan, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2008 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan.
She was born March 20, 1914 in Sedan, Kansas to George Willibee and Laura Belle (Bays) Watson. She grew up and attended school in Sedan, graduating from Sedan High School in 1933. She married Earl McCloud on Nov. 25, 1934 in Independence. They made their first home in Sedan, then to the Lake of the Ozarks and later to Kansas City, Mo. They also lived in Baltimore, MD, where they both dedicated themselves to the Lord and His work. Margaret did volunteer work in the Johns Hopkins Hospital during World War II.
They returned to Kansas while her husband Earl pastured several churches including ones in Niotaze, Grenola and El Dorado.
For thirteen years, they organized and pastured the Maranatha Church for the Mentally Retarded in Lincoln, Calif. They received recognition from the State of California for this work.
In 1975, they returned to Kansas where Earl was the assistant to the Pastor of the Grace Bible Church in McPherson before retiring in Sedan. They had a teaching ministry at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home every Sunday morning. Earl preceded her in death on May 23, 1996.
For many years, Margaret was active in the work of child evangelism. She also had two books of poetry published and she sometimes presented her poetry in public gatherings. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Laura; her husband, Earl McCloud, one son, Kenny McCloud who died as a result of an accident at the age of thirty-three; 'one daughter, Laura Margaret who died in infancy; four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Dr. J. Dean McNamara officiating. Interment followed at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.

MR. ARTHUR R. MCCLURE
Arthur Ray (Bud) McClure, age 88, of Caney, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla.
Bud was born on July 12, 1923 in Sedan. He was the son of Charley Floyd and Bernice Ethel (Yearout) McClure.
Bud was a Howard, Kansas High School graduate of the class of 1941. In 1943 Bud joined the U.S. Coast Guard where he worked as a Fireman First Class in the Pacific Theater until 1946. After he returned home Bud went to work for Boeing Aircraft and also bought a salvage business.
Bud was a member of the Howard Christian Church and then later a member of the First Christian Church of Caney. He was also a member of the National American Legion.
On Feb. 14, 1948, Bud married Doris L. Gregor in El Dorado. In 1953 Bud and Doris opened up a farm equipment dealership, McClure Equipment Company. In 1966 Bud and Doris decided to relocate their home and business to Caney. Once settled, they operated their business for 41 years until they retired in 2007. Bud and Doris were married for 63 years, she survives at the home.
Other survivors include three sons: Michael R. and wife Jeanne of Cincinnati, Ohio; Charles E. and wife Donna of Caney; Guy N. of Caney, and friend Wanda Miller of Caney; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and numerous family and friends.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, son Floyd Ellis, sister Terri Rutan and sister Betty MacKinley.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 at the the First Christian Church in Caney, with Brad Sanders officiating. The family has requested a private burial service which will be held at a later time.
Memorials have been suggested to the First Christian Church in Caney and may be left at the funeral home.
Services have been entrusted to Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard.

Emma McCollough Service Saturday
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the Assembly of God church for Emma Vie McCollough, 88, who died Thursday evening at Memorial hospital in Bartlesville. She had been a patient there two days. She had been in failing health for several months.
Mrs. McCollough, a life-long resident of Sedan, came to Bartlesville in 1950 to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Harcey E. McDill.
Mrs. McCollough was born June 6, 1870, at Louisville, Ky. When a small girl she moved to Sedan vicinity with her parents. She and Henry H. McCollough were married Jan. 28, 1886 at Farmersburg, Kan. Following their marriage they moved to Sedan, where he was active as a merchant for 50 years.
Following his death in March of 1934, she continued to make her home in Sedan, going to Bartlesville in 1950. She was a charter member of the Presbyterian church here.
In addition to the daughter, Mrs. McCollough is survived by another daughter, Mrs. E. E. Green of Ellinwood; a brother, W. A. Parmley, Los Angeles; a sister, Mrs. Gertie Keith, Tahlequah, Okla.; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A minister from the Presbyterian church in Bartlesville was in charge of the services. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery under the direction of Buckles Funeral home.

H. H. McColouch[sic] DEAD
Funeral Services at Presbyterian Church.
H. H. McColouch[sic], a resident of this community for the past 50 years, passed away at his home in Sedan Wednesday evening. His death was caused by pneumonia climaxing a gradual health decline of the past three or four years. He was 75 years old.
Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church Friday forenoon at 10:30, that hour being set to accommodate relatives from a distance to return home the same day. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery with R. I. Buckles, funeral director, in charge.
Deceased was born in Vernon county, Missouri, where he spent the early part of his life. About fifty years ago he moved to this community where he had since resided. For many years he had been in partnership with is son-in-law, E. E. Green, in the produce business and later years dealing in junk, furs, wool and hides. He was a member of the Presbyterian church; also the Woodmen of the World, fraternal insurance order.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. E. E. Green of Sedan and Mrs. Chas. Roberts of Havana community; one brother, John McColouch of Shulter, Oklahoma; other relatives and a host of friends.
MR. DAVID A. MCCOY
David A. McCoy, age 59, of Peru, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, June 4, 2001, at his home in Peru, KS. He was born on August 15, 1941 in Big Flat, Arkansas to parents, Albert and Tisha (Treat) McCoy.
He was born and raised in Big Flat, Arkansas attending local schools before moving to Wichita, KS in 1958. He married Linda Taylor on July 19, 1960 in Hutchinson, KS and they later divorced. He resided in Wichita, KS from 1958 to 1975 and worked for Pepsi-Cola for about one year and then worked as a welder in various plants. Upon moving to the Peru, KS area in 1975, he began work for Economy Mfg. until he started his own business in 1978. He was an oil field owner and Operator & Welder for over twenty years. He retired early due to health reasons.
Survivors include ex-wife Linda McCoy, Peru, KS, one daughter, Jeanie Brown and husband, Tom, Peru, KS, four sons, Wayne McCoy and wife, Michelle, Inola, OK, Richard McCoy, Peru, KS, Larry McCoy, Caney, KS, Dale McCoy, Sedan, KS, one sister, Estelene Schmidt, Mulvane, KS, two brothers, Steve and Bobby McCoy, Big Flat, AR, twelve grandchildren and one great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister and one grandson.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2001, at the Chautauqua Baptist Church in Chautauqua, KS, with the Pastor Alton Webb presiding. Burial followed in the El Cado Cemetery in rural Peru, KS.

MRS. LINDA L. MCCOY
Linda Lea McCoy, age 65, of Peru, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 15. 2010 at the Windsor Place Nursing Home in Coffeyville.
She was born on Dec. 1, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas to Marshal and Mary (Darnall) Taylor. She attended Wichita North High School in Wichita.
She marrieH David McCoy on July 19, 1960 in Hutchison, They moved to Peru in 1975, making their home there. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2001.
She worked as a cook at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan for seven years before retiring due to her health.
She was a member of the Jonesburg Church in rural Chautauqua. She loved working in her yard and puzzles.
She is survived by one daughter, Jeanie Brown and husband Tom of Peru: four sons, Wayne McCoy and wife Michelle of Inola, Okla., Richard McCoy and wife Jennifer of Chautauqua, Larry McCoy and wife Lori of Valeda, Kan., and Dale McCoy of Peru; one brother, Jack Taylor of Wichita; one sister, Eutreva Wren of Springfield, Mo.; twenty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David McCoy and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the New Life Baptist Church with Pastor Larrie Adams officiating. Interment followed at the El Cado Cemetery in rural Niotaze.

Mrs. McCreary Rites Monday
Funeral services for Mrs. Stella McCreary, 75, were held in the Graves-Baird Funeral Home Chapel on Monday with Rev. Clarence Brooks officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. McCreary was born on April 1, 1889 at Vera, Okla., and was the widow of Joseph McCreary who died in 1939. She had made her home at Sedan since 1959 and was living at the Capps Nursing Home. She died Friday afternoon in the Sedan City Hospital.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph of Des Moines, Iowa and Theodore of Attica; and a sister Mrs. Joe Laney of San Benito, Tex.
MR. HAROLD E. MCDOWELL
Harold E. McDowell, age 89, of Chautauqua, Kansas. died Thursday evening, December 14, 2000, at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan, Kansas.
Harold E. McDowell was born April 18, 1911 in Jonesburg, Kansas to Uler S. "Jack" and Nettie F. (Darnall) McDowell. He was raised in Chautauqua, where he attended school and graduated from Chautauqua High School in 1931. Harold married Mary Jane Rector on April 8, 1939 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. For a brief period during the war, Harold worked at the Air Bases in both Independence, KS and Enid, OK. He and Mary returned to Chautauqua where they made their home. He was a self-employed painter and wallpaper hanger.
Harold was active in the Chautauqua community for many years. He was a former Mayor of Chautauqua and former school board member of the Chautauqua schools. He loved hunting, especially hunting for coyotes and bobcats.
Harold is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home in Chautauqua, KS, two daughters, Darla Loyd and her husband, Gene, Sedan, KS and Carolea Main, Independence, KS, five grandchildren, Scott Loyd, Galva, KS, Brad Loyd, Sedan, KS. Drew Main, Cherryvale, KS, Heather Main, Springfield, MO and Seth Loyd, Ames, IA, three great grandchildren, Katelynn Main, Cherryvale, KS. Ethan D. Loyd, Galva, KS and Chance Main, Cherryvale, KS.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charlie and Orville and one sister, Alma Moffiti.
Funeral services for Harold E. McDowell were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2000, at the Chautauqua Baptist Church in Chautauqua, KS. Reverend Ralph Dershem officiated. Burial was held at the Oak Hill Cernetery in Chautauqua, KS.

MRS. MARY J. MCDOWELL
Mary Jane (Rector) McDowell, age 94, of Chautauqua died Monday, May 14, 2007 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
She was born Aug. 31, 1912 in Oak Grove, Kan., area, the daughter of Samuel Allen and Lola Mary (Woolsey) Rector. She was raised in the Chautauqua area and went to Oak Grove School. The family moved to Chautauqua in 1925 and she graduated from Chautauqua High School in 1931.
She married Harold E. McDowell on April 8, 1939 in Pawhuska, Okla. They made their home in Chautauqua except for a brief period during World War II when they lived in Independence and Enid, Okla.
Mary worked at the Post Office in Chautauqua for 45 years, 18 of which she was Postmaster from 1961-1979. After her retirement, she made her home in Chautauqua before moving to Pleasant Valley Manor in 2007.
She was a member of the Chautauqua Baptist Church, she loved to latch hook rugs, and in her younger years, she liked to bowl.
Survivors include two daughters: Dana and husband Gene Loyd of Sedan and Carolea and husband Ron Hannigan of Independence; grandchildren Drew and wife Tiffany Main of Cherryvale, Heather and husband Jason Dillard of Springfield, Mo., Scot and wife Jenny Loyd of Galva, Kan., Brad Loyd of Sedan, and Seth Loyd of Ames, Iowa; great-grandchildren Katelynn and Chance Main, Declan Dillard, and Ethan Loyd, three nieces, Kathy Caldarelli and Lisa Deklinski of California and Judy Thompson of Parsons, one sister-in-law, Frances Rector of Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and one sister.
Friends may call Thursday, May 17 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Friday, May 18 from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at the Chautauqua Baptist Church with the Reverend Kevin Fogerty officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chautauqua.
MR. ROBERT L. MCDOWWLL
NEW YORK - Born Robert Lee McDowell in Sedan, Kan., to Orville and Geraldine McDowel!, Bob passed away at his home in Astoria Queens, New York on Sept. 8, 2005 of brain cancer at the age of 52. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be buried in Ireland at a later date.
Mr. McDowell worked extensively in the world of theatre, cabaret, ballet and choral music. A member of the BMI-Lehman Engle Musical Theatre Workshop, he was also known for his adept arrangements and orchestrations and performed as musical director and conductor of many regional theaters throughout the country.
He is survived by his partner and sometime collaborator, playwright Bill McMahon, his sister, Linda Brooks, Hugoton, Kan. and his aunt, Madeleine Tresner, Sedan, Kan.
A memorial service is planned in New York City for a later date to be announced.
MR. DALE MCELROY
Dale McElroy, of Kaw City, Okla. went to a better place Nov. 28, 2007. He died at his home in Kaw City, he was 41 years old.
Dale was born Aug. 26, 1966 to Charles Russell McElroy and Sylvia (Hobson) McElroy in Coffeyville. They made their home in Sedan. Dale attended school in Sedan, Emporia, Chetopa, Yates Center and Pittsburg State University. He married Susan Marie Bates Nov. 13, 1999 and they made their home in Kaw City.
Dale was a welder and fabricator by trade, but very talented in many facets of life. He loved his family, the outdoors and the keepsakes that had been passed down to him by family.
Dale was preceded in death by his father Charles McElroy, his grandparents Oscar and Louise (Parton) McElroy, Clinton and Helen (Hardy) Hobson, and cousins Sherry and Laura Williamson.
Family members include his wife Susan of the home, his mother Sylvia (Hobson) Bills and husband Larry of Kaw City.; one brother Klinton Jeffery and wife Vanessa and their children Ian, Hayley and Seth of Kentucky. He has one uncle, Rocky McElroy and six aunts Ramona Pierce, Nona Louise Black, Chiquita Lafon, Twila Lister, Beth Barnett and Annette Carson. His life was celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 4 with a dinner at the VFW in Sedan and graveside services followed at Chautauqua, Kan. MRS. LOUISE MCELROY
Louise McElroy of the Cloverdale and Chautauqua, Kansas area died December 23, 2001 at her home in Chautauqua, Kansas.
Angia Louise McElroy was born July 25, 1916 at Hector, Arkansas, where her parents, L. D. & Adah (Taylor) Parton, spent a brief time. She grew up in Caddo County, OK at rural Apache, where she finished high school and not far from Chickasaw, where she was conferred a degree in Science and Education from Oklahoma College of Arts & Sciences in 1952.
On January 9,1936 at Chickasaw, OK, she married Oscar Lee McElroy, who died in 1975. She was also preceded in death by a son 35 years of age, Charles Russell McElroy, her parents and five brothers.
Louise spent thirty-five years teaching in Cedar Creek, Peru and Sedan schools. She was a Charter Member of the Chautauqua County Art Association. She had held memberships in Kansas Authors Club, Chautauqua County Historical Society and National Pen Women. She enjoyed writing, painting, woodworking and photography and especially enjoyed collecting and preserving the history of Chautauqua County, which she shared her knowledge with many. Louise served a number of terms as Belleville Township Treasurer and worked on the Election Board for years. Later she served many terms as Clerk of the Caneyville Community Board of Cloverdale. She was a reporter for many years of a weekly column entitled "Cloverdale News" which appeared in several area papers. Louise attended the Jonesburg Community Church for many years and was a member of the Cedar Vale Baptist Church in later years, where she served two terms as Trustee and one term as Deaconess.
Later in life, Louise married a Rancher of Cloverdale, Norval Baker. He lived a short time before being overtaken with lung cancer. However, Louise retained her long time name of McElroy.
Louise loved her children and grandchildren very much and always encouraged them to do their very best in school and in life's chosen fields. From her extensive records and scrapbooks, she helped her family and others in educational projects and cultural hobbies. She always said, "People have been good to me and they have shared history, information and stories and I enjoyed sharing these worthwhile stories with others."
She is survived by one son, Rocky McElroy, Corpus Christi, TX, four daughters, Ramona Pierce, Dewey, OK, Chiquita Lafon, Wann, OK, Nona Black, Jay, OK, Twila Lister, Sedan, KS, four grandsons, Shane, Chad and Dale McElroy and Rodney Black, four granddaughters, Rhonda Solomon, Sheila Myers, Melanie Wheelock and Deanna Lister, four great grandchildren. Regina Whitson, Dusty Mills, Travis Phelps and Brett Loile Black, one brother, John Parton, five sisters, Lucille Doan, Jewell Hyatt, Ruth Bifulco, Mazy Shillinglaw and Nell Ryan.
Services were held Thursday, December 27, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. at the Graves Memorial Chapel in Caney under the direction of Graves Funeral Home of Caney, with burial in Chautauqua Oak Hill Cemetery. Walter Darnall and Earl Tresner presided.
Memorials may be given to the Chautauqua Senior Citizens Center in care of Graves Funeral Home of Caney.
MR. EARL J. MCFARLAND
Earl Joseph McFarland passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was 93 years of age and was a resident of Howard, Kansas. Earl was born February 5, 1908 at Oak Valley in Elk County, Kansas to Harry Earl and Iva May (Fisher) McFarland. He attended Elk Falls Grammar School and graduated from Elk Falls High School in 1925. At the time of his death, he was the oldest graduate of Elk Falls.
On May 18, 1927, he married Mattie Estel Ruler at Sedan, KS and to this union was born one daughter. Earl and Mattie had been married 71 years when she passed away on June 21, 1998 after a lengthy illness.
Earl joined the Bester G. Brown Masonic Lodge #433 at Wichita, KS in 1946 and then transferred to the Hope Masonic Lodge #155 in Howard, KS. In 1996, he was presented his 50 year Masonic pin.
Earl worked at Union Stock Yards in Wichita until 1929 when he was hired by Phillips Petroleum Company. He started as a service station attendant and then worked in the warehouse. After learning the business from all angles, he was promoted to accountant and then to Division Marketing Manager. In 1961 when the Phillips office in Wichita closed, he was transferred to Kansas City, MO, where he completed more than 40 years of faithful service. In 1969, they moved to Howard, KS, where he took full advantage of his retirement years.
He continued lifetime activities as an avid sportsman who had many adventures hunting, fishing and much success as a bowler and golfer Earl also enjoyed traveling and visiting at family gatherings with his wife, daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
MR. JAMES V. MCGEE
ELGIN, Kan. - James Vester McGee, 84, of Elgin, Kan. died Monday morning, May 31,2004, at Dewey Medicalodge in Dewey, Okla.
He was born Feb. 10, 1920 on the family farm near Elgin to Isaac Franklin and Maude C. (Moore) McGee. He grew up near Elgin, attending school in Elgin and graduating from Elgin High School.
In 1944, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp serving during World War II as a pilot. He received his honorable discharge in December 1945.
On May 18, 1950, he married Beth Fuller at Sedan. Following their marriage, they made their home in Elgin, where Mr. McGee worked in the oil fields for Continental Oil Co. of Independence and later for Chad Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Beth, of the home; two sons, Brian McGee, Edna, Kan. and Brett McGee, Sedgwick, Kan.; and two granddaughters, Brianna McGee and Madison McGee, both of Edna. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one granddaughter.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, in Greenwood Cemetery at Sedan, with Rev. Jerry Bever of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Fort Riley, Kan.

MRS. ANNA E. MCGEHEE
Coffeyville - Anna Elizabeth McGehee, 88, of rural Coffeyville, Kan. died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Windsor Place.
Mrs. McGehee was born Nov. 8,1914 in Tyro, Kan. to Joseph and Josephine (Irby) Gallaugher. As a child, she grew up in Peru, Kan. and graduated from the local high school. On March 29, 1933, she married James Lee McGehee at Sedan. The couple lived in Sedan and Peru before making their home in Coffeyville in 1937. Mrs. McGehee was a homemaker. Mr. McGehee, with partners, established Magic Circle in 1951 and selling in 1972. He also was employed at Funk Manufacturing until retiring in 1976.
She was a member of the Dearing Christian Church.
She is survived by her husband, James, of the home, one son, James Dwane McGehee, Coffeyville, Kan., two daughters, Shirley Lepper, Weldona, Colo. and Sondra Dean, Salado, Texas, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy and Cecil, and two sisters, Margaret and Alice.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Dearing Christian Church with burial at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville and Pastor Jamie Regis officiating.

MRS. ADA E. MCGILL
Ada Eleanor McGill, age 83, of Sedan. Kansas, died Saturday evening January 27, 2001, at the Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg, KS.
Ada was born in Nowata, OK September 14, 1917 to Tom Barr and Ada (Coker) Barr. She grew up in Nowata, OK and attended the Nowata schools. She moved to Wichita, KS as a young lady and lived there for a time. She moved to Texas and later to Sedan, where she has lived since that time.
While in Wichita, Ada worked for the Boeing Aircraft Company. Ada married Warren 0. “Pat” McGill, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one son, Tommy Burn McGill, two brothers, four sisters and her parents.
Graveside services will be held at Martin Cemetery in Nowata County, OK on Thursday, February 1, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Rick Thayer will officiate. Interment will be at the Martin Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home in Nowata, OK.
MR. ARTIE W. MCGILL
Artie Wilbur McGill, age 91, of Sedan, Kansas, died Sunday, November 26, 2000 at the Jane Phillips Memorial Hospital in Bartlesville, OK. He was born August 7, 1909 in Sedan to Milo Clayton and Josie (Minnifee) McGill. He was a Clerk.
On December 24, 1945 at Sedan, he and Violet Ettie Griffith were united in marriage. She preceded him in death on September 22, 1997.
Other survivors include one son, Wilbur M. McGill of Sedan, KS, two daughters, Heloise Sue McGill of Chautauqua, KS and Patsy Stipp of Neodesha, KS, seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2000, at 1:00 p.m. in the Graves-Baird Chapel in Sedan, KS. Interment will be in the Union Chapel Cemetery, rural Sedan. Rev. Dois Nix of the Sedan First Baptist Church will officiate. Graves-Baird Funeral Home in Sedan is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Julia B. McGill, 92 died at her home in Cedar Val Jan. 8, after an illness of six weeks.
Mrs. McGill had been a resident of Cedar Vale for the past nine years.
Survivors include one son, Dana C. McGill and one daughter, Nellie B. Mills, both of Cedar Vale, eigt grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

MRS WILMA F. MCGINNIS
Wilma Fay (Boles) McGmnis, age 80, a resident of Fall River, Kansas, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at HCA Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on January 12, 1921 to Harry E. and Mae (Holliday) Boles on a farm five miles south of Fall River, KS. She received her elementary education at Rule School in Elk County, Kansas, graduating from Fall River High School in 1939. She taught nine years in rural schools in the Fall River and Fredonia area.
On June 11, 1944, she was united in marriage to Harry McGinnis, One son, Eldon, was born to this union.
Wilma and Harry purchased the Fall River Sundries store, which they operated for several years before retiring. Wilma loved to cook and always enjoyed her gardening. She was a member of the Fall River United Methodist Church, where she had served as a board member and Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Columbia Chapter, Order of Eastern Star #142 in Howard, KS. She was to have received her 50 year membership pin from Eastern Star this week. She had been a member of several organizations and clubs which she had to drop because of health. These included the Senior Advance Club, several quilting clubs and the EHU Unit. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dean Boles.
She is survived by her husband, Harry, of the home, son, Eldon and wife, Jane, Fredonia, three grandchildren, David and Gayann McGinnis, Wichita, KS, DeeAnn and Lance Edens, Fredonia and Dana and Matt Anderson, Independence, two great granddaughters, Faith Edens, Fredonia, and Ariel McGinnis, Wichita, and her twin sister, Wilda Moore, Severy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2001, at the Fall River United Methodist Church with Rev. Charlotte Coates officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Cora Dolly (Green) McGlasson, 93, longtime resident of Winfield, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003, at her home. Funeral Services were held at the First Baptist Church in Winfield and interment followed in Highland Cemetery.
Born April 12, 1910, in Moline, she was the daughter of William Young and Minta (Lee) Green. Dolly graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1929. Dolly made her home in Cedar Vale until 1962 when she moved to Winfield.
Survivors include her sons, Elman McGlasson of Nashville, Tenn., Robert McGlasson of Bartlesville, OK., Carl McGlasson of Ponca City, OK., John McGlasson of Nashville, Tenn, and Delbert McGlasson of Kilgore Texas; daughters Nedra Giles of Newkirk, OK, and Dixie Trotter of Winfield; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and sisters, one grandson, one great-grandson, and two great-great grandsons.

Del McGlasson, 64, formerly of Arkansas City, died Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Kilgore, Texas. Graveside services were held Saturday at the Hickory Grove Cemetery near Kilgore.
Del was born March 24, 1942 in Grenola to William and Dolly McGlasson. He graduated from Cedar Vale High School. He was a member of the Forest Home Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Diana McGlasson of the home; five daughters, Sherry Coldwell, of Arkansas City, Debbie Pfeffer of Lenexa, Kandiss Lane, Kami Day, and Kari Porter, all of Texas; his brothers and sisters, Elman, Robert, Carl, and John McGlasson, Dixie Trotter and Nedra Giles; and nine grandchildren.
MRS. ORETHA O. MCGLASSON
ARKANSAS CITY-Oretha Olene McGlasson passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at the Medicalodge of Arkansas City. She was 90 years of age. Oretha was born on Jan. 29, 1913 at Paragould, Ark., to David Edward and Bertha Emma (Elliott) Wilcoxon. She attended school and grew to womanhood in the Paragould community.
On Feb. 12, 1931, she married James Reed McGlasson at Leeds, Kan. She lived in Missouri for a short time, but was a resident of the Moline, Grenola, Winfield and Arkansas City area during most of her life. Oretha was a devoted wife and mother and dedicated her life to making a home for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband.
She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge and the Hackney Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, David McGlasson of Coffeyville, Kenneth McGlasson of WaKeeney, Kan., Donald McGlasson and Israel “Ed” McGlasson, both of Arkansas City; her daughter, Mary Lou Shorter of Long Beach, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reed McGlasson; a daughter, Alene Ware; one brother; and four sisters.
Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 at the Moline Cemetery in Moline with Pastor Gary Boles of the Moline Christian Church officiating. The funeral arrangements were made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

MRS. TWILA MARIE MCGLASSON
Twila Marie McGlasson passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2000 at the Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was 77 years of age and a former resident of the Moline area. Marie, as she was known, was born on September 3, 1923 at Elk Falls, Kansas to Neil and Myrtle Ruth (Snyder) Shanks. She attended rural Elk County schools and graduated from Longton High School in 1942.
On April 5, 1943, she married John Freddrick "Fred" McGlasson at Sedan, Kansas and to this union was born two sons, William Edward and Fredrick Allen. Marie was employed for several years as a retail sales clerk for Woolworth and Kress, and also worked as a grocery store clerk. She was a devoted wife and mother and dedicated her life to caring for her family.
Marie made a home for her family in Burden, Winfield and Arkansas City, Kansas, as well as various locations in Oklahoma, including Blackwell, Nelogany and Putnam. Marie and Fred made their home near Seiling, Oklahoma since 1973. He husband preceded her in death on August 5, 1998.
She enjoyed playing bingo and doing cross-stitch and knitting.
She is survived by her sons, Bill and Allen, both of Oklahoma City; her brothers, Wayne Shanks of Moline, Richard Shanks of Longton and Larry Shanks of Pittsburg, Kansas; her sisters, Edwina Mason of Atwood, Kansas, Doris Bonner of Atchinson, Kansas, Jean McCroskey of Tucson, Arizona. Sharon McGinnis of Brunswick, Missouri and Wanda Banning of Johnson, Kansas; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2000, at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, with Lloyd G. Zimmerman officiating. Betty Russell was the organist with Louise Morgan singing "Amazing Grace" and "The Home Over There". John S. McGregor, age 91, of Sedan, passed away Monday morning, June 14, 2010 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan.
He was born May 26, 1919 in Rural Chautauqua County, to Ralph and Minnie (McAlister) McGregor. He attended and graduated from Moline High School. He married Weltha Mae Wendt on Sept. 7, 1991 in Wichita. After their marriage, they made their home in Sedan. He worked as an engineer for Dow chemical company in Texas for over 50 years before retiring.
He was a member of United Methodist Church in Texas and the Masonic Lodge in Winfield. He loved woodworking, gardening flowers, children and walking around Sedan. He collected John Deere memorabilia.
He is survived by his wife, Weltha Mae McGregor, one daughter, Sue Fesler of Houston, Texas; one step-daughter, Sandra Keller and husband Doug of Independence, Mo.; one sister, Eva Malone of Moline; four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Darlene Schnapp, two sisters and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 18, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Sedan with Pastor John R. Warring of the First Christian Church and Dr. J. Dean McNamara of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.

Weltha Mae McGregor, age 90, of Sedan, passed away Friday morning, Nov. 5, 2010 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan.
She was born March 2, 1920 in Moore Prairie, west of Sedan, to William and Mabel (Post) Wendt. She attended and graduated from Sedan High School.
She married Gerald W. Mills and he preceded her in death in 1958. She later married Herman Roecker and he preceded her in death in 1965. She then married John McGregor on Sept. 7, 1991 in Wichita. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2010.
She worked as an Office Manager for Union Gas for over twenty years until her retirement.
She was a life-long resident of Sedan. She was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed her cats, crafts, games and her grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Keller and her husband Doug of Independence, Mo.; one half sister, Lela Tyson of Wichita; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her three husbands and one sister.

Ester McKaig, age 70, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on December 7, 2000. She was born in Sedan, Kansas April 19, 1930. She was a retired Nurse (LPN).

MRS. CHRLOTTE E. MCKENZIE
SEDAN, Kan. Charlotte E. McKenzie, 79, of Sedan, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
She was born Sept. 5, 1925 in Roanoke, Va. to Walter and Lilly (Willet) Hambrick. She grew up and attended school in the San Bernardino, Calif. area.
She married Eugene McKenzie in 1964, in San Bernardino, Calif. They made their home in the San Bernardino and Long Beach, Calif. area. In 1983, Mr. McKenzie passed away and she made her home in California until later moving to Sedan in September of 1992. Mrs. McKenzie had made her home at Pleasant Valley Manor since 2000.
She enjoyed attending the church services at Pleasant Valley Manor and enjoyed crafts, sewing, art, and her grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Blair, Chautauqua Kan., one son, Mark, Vafeados, Oregon, one sister, Bunny Mortensen, California, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, one son, one daughter, and one granddaughter, six sisters, and one brother preceded her in death.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Pleasant Valley Manor at a later date.

MR. JOHN J. MCKIMENS
CANEY-John J McKimens, 72, of Sedan, died Sunday at Sedan City Hospital.
Services will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday at the United Methodist Church of Sedan, with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the Graves Funeral Home of Caney until 8 pm. today. The family will receive friends at the home of Sedan, 219 W Cherokee, from 7 pm to 9 pm tonight. Memorials are suggested the Sedan Methodist Church.
Mr. McKimens was born Sept. 23, 1921, to Wilders D "Bill and Nellie(Cornelius) McKimens in rural Wheaton. Most of his schooling was in Westmoreland, where he graduated in 1940. He began his college education, but left to serve during World War II in the United States Army Medical Corporation. He later graduated from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in 1948.
In 1947, he and his parents bought the Fish Drug Store in Sedan, changing the name to the Corner Drug Store. He remained there until closing the store in 1986. Mr. McKimens was a member of the Sedan United Methodist Church, the VFW Post and the American Legion Post. He was also a chater member of the Sedan Bowling Association, serving as treasurer for many years, a past member of the Sedan Chamber of Commerce and has also served on the Sedan City Hospital board of trustees.
On June 23, 1949, he married Betty E. Steward in Sedan. She survives at the home. Other survivors include a son John M. McKimens, Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Mary K. McKimens, Council Grove and Beverly J. McKimens, Houston, Texas; and two children.
MR. FRANKLIN MCKINLEY
Franklin “Bud” McKinley, age 79, of Cedar Vale, Kansas passed on in his home on Saturday, November 19, 2011.
He was born on May 31, 1932 in Rayville, Louisiana to John and Beulah (Wallace) McKinley. He was raised near Monroe, Louisiana where he attended and graduated from the local high school. After his graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving his country from 1951 to 1955 when he was honorably discharged.
On June 5, 1960 he married Patricia Ann Howell in Howard, Kansas. They made their first home in Howard, Kansas where he studied and became an auctioneer and later moved to Fort Worth, Texas. They relocated to Arkansas City where they attended Cowley College and he was an assistant football coach for Ben Cleveland. They eventually settled in Cedar Vale in 1973. He did many things in his life including participating in rodeos where he clowned and judged, bulldogged and calf roped, broke and shod horses, and had a cattle operation for the past 30 years. One of his most proud achievements was his participation in 1959, at the World Championship Rodeo in Madison Square Garden in New York City.
He was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, and the Carter Rader Post #149 American Legion in Howard, Kansas. He enjoyed going to the coffee shop in town, talking with his friends, gardening, anything outdoors, and offering advice to his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Ann McKinley; two sons, John H. McKinley and Billy R. McKinley DVM; one daughter Mary R. McKinley all of Cedar Vale, Kansas; one sister, Joy Dell Crow of Bastrop, Louisiana; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Gathering will take place at the Cedar Vale High School on Saturday, November 26th, 2011 at 2pm.

MR. OTIS L. MCKINNEY
SEDAN: Otis Leroy “Tuffy” McKinney died on Wednesday, Oct. 4. He was born on July 14, 1932 in Collinsville, Okla to Joseph Otis and Lucy Mae (Jones) McKinney.
On July 5, 1955, he married Margaret Strayer at Newkirk, Okla. From there they moved to Hardner, Kansas. They lived most of their married life at Fairfax, Okla. before moving to the Sedan area.
Otis was a member of the Jonesburg Church east of Chautauqua, Kan. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed being able to spend time with them. He also enjoyed fishing, rodeo’s and music. He was a rancher and oil field worker all his life.
He is survived by his wife Margaret of the home; four sons, Dennis of Chautauqua, Kan., Thomas and Roy of Bartlesville, Okla., and Travis of Cedar Vale, Kan.; three daughters, Madonna of Bloomfield, Iowa, Stephanie and Brandy of Sedan, Kan.; 12 grandchildren, Shelby Banning, Jack Peel, Clint and Amanda McKinney, Wyatt and Talon Hull, Sheila Grey, Raymond and Dustin Holt, Andrew Lepage, Mikie McKinney, Mark McKinney. One great-grandson Matthew; Two brothers, Thomas of Sedan and Francis of Peru. Many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mrs. McLaughlin Dies At Pawhuska
Mrs. Alice McLaughlin, 64, died Tuesday, Dec 14, at Pawhuska City, hospital. Services will be held Thursday, Dec 16, at Graves Memorial chapel in Sunnyside cemetery in Caney.
She was born June 7, 1907 at Caney to William H. and Alida (Smith) Miller. She had lived in Caney, Chautauqua and Sedan and moved to Pawhuska approximately five years ago. She was a member of the Assembly of God church in Pawhuska.
Survivors include one son, William E. McLaughlin of Cambridge; one brother, Everett Miller of Pawhuska and three grandchildren.
MRS CAROLYN V. MCLAUGHLIN
Carolyn Virginia Jackson-McLaughlin, age 59, of Cedar Vale, died Sunday morning, Nov. 26, 2006 at the Caney Nursing Center in Caney.
She was born August 6, 1947 in Oak Grove, Louisiana to Jim H. Jackson and Doris (Sanders) Jackson-Fesler. She attended and graduated from the Lakeside High School in Lake Village. Arkansas. She married James Henry McLaughlin in 1966. They later divorced in 1992. She worked as an accountant with Continental Airlines in Houston. Tex.
She was a member of the Vayou Mason Baptist Church in Lake Village, Ark.
She is survived by her mother, Doris Fesler of Cedar Vale; three sisters. Anita J. Utt and husband Donnie Stone of Cedar Vale, Norma E. Ragan and husband Mike of Rohwer, Arkansas and Tammie A. Kelly and husband Dave of Cedar Vale: two nephews. Charlie Kelly of Dexter and Wyatt Kelly of Cedar Vale; two nieces. Jenny Kelly of Cedar Vale and Sara Kelly of Newkirk, Okla. She is also survived by several step-nieces and step-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father. Jim H. Jackson; one brother. Ronnie Jackson and her step-father Lyman Fesler.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m.. Friday. Dec. at the Wauneta United Methodist Church in Wauneta with Reverend Jerry Bever officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date at the Lake Providence City Cemetery in Lake Providence, La.

Services Held For John McLaughlin
John William McLaughlin, 81, died March 10 at the Cedar Vale hospital. He was born Sept. 9, 1898 in Burnett, Okla. to Calvin O. McLaughlin and Lucinda (Hayscott) McLaughlin.
McLaughlin lived in Tyro for many years and moved to Cedar Vale in 1979. He worked as an oil field worker and farmer.
Survivors include one son William McLaughlin of Peru; three sisters, Mrs. Letha Click of Havana, Mrs. Ernest Kelly of Cherryvale, and Mrs. Evelyn Wood of Vinita, Okla.; one brother Calvin McLaughlin of Los Angeles, Calif.; and ten grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m, Wednesday Mar 12, at the Graves Memorial Chapel in Caney with John Hooper from the church of Christ officiating. Interment was held at Fairview cemetery in Niotaze.

MRS. LINDA C. MCMILLAN
Linda C. McMillan, age 61, of Sedan, passed away Thursday evening, June 19, 2008 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
She was born March 14,1947 in Blackwell, Okla., to Everett E. and Alma E. (Shimek) Miller. She attended grade school at the Snow Hill country school near Valeda, Kan., before moving to Sedan and graduating from Sedan High School in 1965.
On July 17, 1965 she married John C. McMillan at Sedan where they made their home for the last forty three years. She worked as City Treasurer for the City of Sedan for 15 years retiring in July of 2007.
She was a member of the Tyro Christian Church and the Chautauqua County Extension Council and the Sedan Chamber Commerce. She loved spending tune with her family and especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband John of the home in Sedan, one son, Baron and Susan McMillan of Claremore, Okla., two daughters, Tisha and Brad Brown of Sedan, and Jodi and Patrick Steward of Sedan; one brother, Bob and his wife Bonita Miller of Sedan, eight grandchildren, Denton Brown, Jordan Brown, Megan Brown, Morgan Steward, Leah Steward, Allison Steward, Lindsey McMillan, and Kaley McMillan; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Buddy Miller. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro with David Bycroft officiating. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.

INFANT JOSEPH S. MCMILLAN
The body of our little angel, Joseph Steven McMillan, entered this world on Aug. 6, 2009, having already accomplished his mission here on earth.
Joseph is loved by his parents Eli and Angela McMillan of Ferron, Utah; siblings Sydney, Claire, Samuel and twin brother Hyrum; grandparents Steve and Connie Ault of American Fork, Utah; Daniel and Cheryl McMillan of Peru; great-grandparents Howard and Lurae Ault of American Fork, Utah; Duane and Carol Herbert of Orem, Utah; and Ruby Alford of Topeka.
Joseph was welcomed home by great-grandparents John and Almeda McMillan and Leonard Alford.
The family would like to thank the skilled and compassionate staff of St. Mark's hospital in Salt Lake City, and also Jane Perry of "Now 1 Lay Me Down to Sleep." Joseph will be buried in Ferron, Utah. Families are forever.
MR. FLOYD MCNEE
Floyd McNee, 82, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Sedan, died in the early morning of Dec. 14, 2007 at Cox South Hospital after a long battle with COPD.
Floyd was born on Oct. 15, 1925 in Eva, Okla., to Roy and Leona Ramsey and was raised by his grandparents Ray and Bertha McNee.
Surviving are his daughter, Laura McNee Peterson and husband, Bill; daughter Patty Dennis; and granddaughter Brooke Peterson, all of Springfield, Mo. Also surviving is brother, Billy Ramsey of Corvallis, Mnt., nephew, Dennis McNee and wife, Marilyn of Moline, and a host of other nieces and nephews.

MR. WILLIAM J. MCNEESE
William Jeremiah “Bill” McNeese, age 82, of Cameron, Texas passed away Friday, April 27, 2007 at his residence in Cameron.
He was born Feb. 2, 1925 in Johnson City, Tenn., to Mr. and Mrs. McNeese. He joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War and in World War II.
He is survived by two sons, Mark Potter of Cheney, Kan., and Steve Wheatcraft of Reno, Nev., and two grandchildren, Zechariah and Chelsey Potter.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday. May 1 at the Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Kevin Fogerty of the Chautauqua Baptist Church officiating.

MR. ALFRED A. MCNOWN
Alfred Arthur McNown, 91, of Sedan, passed away Friday night, Feb. 1, 2008, at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
He was born Oct. 29, 1916 in the Belknap Community northwest of Sedan to William Harvey and Florence Elizabeth (McAlister) McNown. He grew up on the family farm and received his elementary education and Prairie Center School.
On Dec. 28, 1938 he married Viola I. Stephens. Following their marriage they made their home on their farm in the Belknap Community where their three daughters were raised. Mrs. McNown preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 1953.
On Oct. 27,1961 he married Thelma Lucile Webb Stephens. Following their marriage they continued living in the Belknap area where Alfred farmed and raised Hereford cattle. Mrs. McNown preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 1996. Following her death Alfred continued living on the farm until moving to Sedan in 2002. He was a member of the Belknap Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Pauline Doty of rural Sedan, Jeanne Crawford of rural Sedan, and Joan Beckenholdt of Sedan; one brother, Harrison McNown of Winfield; six grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, and one great-grandchild.
Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008 in the First United Methodist Church in Sedan with Rev. Jerry Bever officiating and Rev. Gary Boles and Rev. Norman Reeves assisting. Burial was in the Belknap Cemetery northwest of Sedan.

Obituary Mrs. I. A. McNown
Maggie Z. Steele was born April 10, 1850 near Barry, Ill. and departed this life Jan. 3, 1919, being 68 yrs, 8 mos. and 24 days old. In April with her parents she moved to Nevada, crossing what was then known as the plains. Going from Nevada to Oregon and later moving to California. In 1865 starting back to Illinois, going by way of the Pacific ocean to New York and across to Pleasant Hill, Ill. Later moving to northern Mississippi and then to Cowley county, Kans. where she taught several terms in the public schools.
In 1874 she was united in marriage to Isaac A. McNown. To this union 8 children were born, a son, Leslie and a daughter, Ella, dying in early childhood. The husband, two daughters, Anna L. Ferugson of Cedar Vale, Dena M. Lee of Buhl, Idaho, and for sons, Glen A., S. Welsey, J. B. and W. Harvey survive. Besides the members of her own family she leaves an aged sister, Mrs. K. Cline of San Francisco and 11 grandchildren to mourn the loss of a kind and loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother.
Soon after her marriage she went with her husband to Linn Co. where she resided until May, 1833 when the family moved to Chautauqua county, near Leeds where she resided until her death.
At the age of 16 she was united with the M. E. church being a faithful worker until failing health compelled her to give up the work. Grandma McNown will long be remembered for her many acts of kindness and sweet disposition. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Landon of Moline at the Belknap church, the scripture chosen being the 90th Psalm. Text "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord."

INFANT CORBAN H. MCNOWN
Beloved son of Issac and Jennifer McNown, Corban took his first breath Nov. 13, 2008. He was three and a half months premature.
Corban Harvey, named after his great-great-grandfather, William Harvey and his grandfather, Carl Harvey McNown made a lasting impression in the lives of all who knew him. Weighing only 12 ounces at birth and 15 ounces at death, he earned the nickname '"Little-Tough Gay". He lived up to that nickname with every fighting breath he took.
In his battle for life he constantly amazed the medical staff that worked with him. He was doing well but was unable to fight any longer. He died Nov. 28, 2008, due to heart complications. He was 15 days old.
All those who loved him look forward to seeing him when "All those in their memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out," John 5:28-29. We will rejoice with him when "death will be no more...The former things have passed away," Rev. 21:4. When life will be as God originally purposed; on a paradise earth, in perfect health, to time indefinite.
MR. DALE L. MCNOWN
MOLINE - Dale Leon McNown passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2006, at his home in Moline. He was 82 years of age and a former resident of Burlingame, Kan.
Dale was born on Jan. 7, 1924, at Belknap to Glenn Adelbert and Edna Mae (McAlister) McNown. He attended school and grew to manhood in the Belknap and Moline area. Dale served in the United States Navy dwing World War II.
On Oct. 9, 1947, he married Margaret Elizabeth Denton at Burden. Dale and Margaret lived in Winfield for a short time before moving to Moline in the late 1940s. They made their borne in several locations throughout Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri, and settled in Burlingame in 1959.
They have made their home at Moline since July of 1976, where Dale was employed as a supervisor at the Martin-Marietta Rock Quarry. He retired from Martin-Marietta and then worked several years for Blacktop Construction. Margaret preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2004.
He was a member of the Ferguson-Spease American Legion Post #388 of Moline and a PastMaster of the Corinthian Masonic Lodge #79 in Burlingame.
He is survived by his son Gary of Moline; his daughter Paula Clyde and her husband Chris of Derby; his former daughter-in-law Karen McNown of Dover, Ark.; his brother Bud McNown of El Dorado; four grandchildren, Nathan and Cristen of Derby, Nikki McNown of RusseLlville, Ark., and Glenn McNown of Malvern, Ark.; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a brother, Ivan McNown.
MRS. CYNDA L. MCNOWN
ARKANSAS CITY - Cynda L. McNown, 81, of Arkansas City, Kan., formerly of Sedan, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at Medical Lodge Post Acute Center in Arkansas City, Kan.
She was born on Jan. 27, 1925, northwest of Sedan, Kan. to Gilbert Calvin and Nell M. (Straight) Briggs. She attended Spring Creek School until the eight grade before graduating from Sedan High School in 1943.
On Sept. 3, 1944, she married Harrison McNown. They later divorced.
She graduated from Vernon’s School of Cosmetology in Wichita, Kan. She worked as a cosmetologist for many years before working in nursing homes as a cook.
She attended the Christian Church, enjoyed her kids, and painting.
She is survived by her two sons; David McNown, Bonneau Beach, SC and Robert McNown, Winfield, Kan.; one sister, Grace Richards, Winfield, Kan. and one brother, Gilbert Briggs Jr., Wichita, Kan.; seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2006, at the First Christian Church in Sedan with the Rev. Penny Goldberg officiating.

MR. DONALD L. MCNOWN
Donald Lee McNown passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at his home in Tow-anda,Kan. He was 76 years of age.
Don was born on Sept. 11, 1931 at Wauneta in Chautauqua County to Jay B. and Myrtle Alta (Lee) McNown. He began school at Sedan and graduated from high school at Moline.
During the Korean War, Don served four years in the Navy aboard the USS Eversol, a destroyer, earning the Korean Service Medal with two stars, National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
Don married Ruth Davis, his high school sweetheart, at the Moline Methodist Parsonage on July 18, 1953. Don worked for the Kansas Gas Service Company for several years and was self-employed in a small construction business. He served as Scout Master of Towanda Troop 232 and has been a member of Hope Masonic Lodge #155 at Howard for 51 years. His free spirit and sense of humor will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife Ruth, of the home; his sons, Mike and wife Charla of Valley Center, and David and wife Pamela of El Dorado; five grandchildren: Brian Michael of Spring Hill, Kan., Wendy Dawn of Overland Park, Kan., and Logan James, Levi Talon, and Landon David all of El Dorado; and his sisters, Lorene Runyon of Sedan, Alta Ehrlich of Delaware, Okla., Louise Seward of Lexington, Neb., and Peggy Ward of Wichita.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Wayne McNown, Willard McNown, J. B. McNown, Jr., and Russell McNown, and his sisters Marjorie Wilson, Charlene McNown, and Arlene Day.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19,2008, at the Towanda United Methodist Church of Christ with Rev. Denise Sawyer officiating. Charla McNown was the pianist with congregational hymns of "Blessed Assurance" and "When We All Get To Heaven." The pallbearers were Paul "Pappy" Jacot, Charles Hanna, George Hayden, Ed Rando, Daryl Winters and Dean Winters.
Graveside services were held on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Moline Cemetery in Moline with Rev. Mark Davis of the Cedar Vale Baptist Church officiating. Military funeral honors were conducted by the United States Navy and "Amazing Grace" was played on bagpipes.
Memorials have been established with the Towanda United Methodist Church of Christ and the Good Shepherd Hospice of Wichita. Contributions may be left with the funeral home. The funeral arrangements are being made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
MR. ORVAL E. MCNOWN
Orval Edward McNown, 74, of Moline, Kansas, died Thursday, January 25, 1996, at Riverside Health Services, Wichita, Kansas. He was born July 13, 1921, in Kansas, to William Harvey and Florence (McAlister) McNown.
He was a veteran of World War II and a Farmer-Rancher and Oil Producer. On July 8, 1952, he and Evelyn Ruth Marshall were united in marriage. She preceded him in death on April 30, 1980. On July 28, 1982 he and Melva C. Whaley Ruddle were united in marriage. She survives at the home.
Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth McNown of Sedan, Kansas, and Carl McNown of Moline, Kansas; one step-son, Eldon Ruddle of Moline, Kansas; one step-daughter, Corliss Spiller of Longton, Kansas; three brothers, Alfred McNown of Moline, Kansas, Roy McNown of Cedar Vale, Kansas, and Harrison McNown of Winfield, Kansas; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 29, 1996, at 2:00 p.m., in the Graves-Baird Funeral Home Chapel, Sedan, Kansas. Interment was in the Belknap Cemetery, Rural Moline, Kansas. Rev. Kevin Baxter officiated. Graves-Baird Funeral Home, Sedan, was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in his name with the American Heart Association.
MRS. THELMA L. MCNOWN
Thelma Lucille McNown, 85, of Sedan, Kansas, died Sunday, February 4, 1996, at Via Cristi St. Francis Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. She was born June 12, 1910, in Sedan, Kansas, to Harvey and Sarah (Brewington) Webb. She was a homemaker, a member of the Belknap Community Church, the Eastern Star, the Chautauqua County Council On Aging, and the Senior Citizens.
On July 4, 1929, she and Owen Claude Stephens were united in marriage in Sedan, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1958. On October 28, 1961, in Wichita, Kansas, she and Alfred Arthur McNown were united in marriage, he survives at the home.
Also surviving are two Sons, Norman L. Stephens of Americas, Kansas, and Harvey Carroll Stephens of Branson, Missouri; one daughter, Phyllis Hernandez of Wichita, Kansas; three stepdaughters, Pauline Doty and Joan Kinkaid, both of Sedan, Kansas, and Jeanne Crawford of Power Cite, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-one greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 7, 1996, at 2:00 p.m., in the Graves-Baird Chapel, Sedan, Kansas. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Sedan. Rev. Wally Racker officiated. Graves-Baird Funeral Home, Sedan, was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in her name with the Belknap Community Church.

Mrs. Viola McNown Passes Away At Sedan City Hospital
Mrs. Viola Ina McNown was born January 27, 1918 and passed away September 15, 1953 at the Sedan City Hospital.
She is survived by her husband Alfred and three daughters, Pauline, Velma and Iona, all of the home. Also two brothers, Claude Sevens, Sedan and Carl Stevens of Wichita.
Services were held Wednesday September 16, at 2:00 o'clock in the Belknap Church with the Rev. O. W. Dewey, of Moline, officiating.
Burial services took place at the Belknap Cemetery.

Harvey McNown Well Known County Man Passes Away
William Harvey McNown, youngest son of Isaac A. McNown and Margaret Steele McNown, was born September 9, 1891 southwest of Moline, Kansas and passed away Noverber 20, 1953 in Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.
Harvey spent his entire life in the home where he was born and attended the rural schools there and the Sedan schools.
He was a member of the school board for a number of years and a director of the First National Bank of Sedan, a position he held at the time of his death. He is also a prominent farmer and stockman.
Mr. McNown was united in marriage with Florence E. McAlister December 29, 1915 at Sedan. To this union was born four sons, Alfred A. and Orval E. of Moline, Roy H. of Sedan, Harrison L. of Winfield.
Survivors include his wife Florence of the home, the four sons, five granddaughters and one grandson, two sisters, Mrs. N. H. Lee of Weiser, Idaho, Mrs. John Ferguson of Cedar Vale; a number of nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Belknap church Monday afternoon at 2:00 by Rev. Nehf. A trio consisting of Lyle Sallee, Wilmer Stephenson and Bert Garrett sang, "In The Garden" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere". Mrs. Shirley Boulanger was pianist.
Pallbearers were Wilson, Darrel and Harold Joe McAlister; Russel, Dale and Bud McNown, nephews of the deceased. Interment was in the Belknap Cemetery.
MS. ROBIN MCPHERSON
SEDAN - Robin McPherson, 49, of Sedan, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at Sedan City Hospital in Sedan, Kan.
She was born on Sept. 25, 1956 in Atlanta, Ga. to Frank and Mildred (Myers) McPherson. She grew up in the Atlanta, Kan. area and graduated from Carrollton High School in Carrollton, Ga. After 32 years in Georgia, she moved to Texas, before coming to Sedan in 1998.
Ms. McPherson had many interests. She enjoyed going to yard sales, her computer, and fishing. She attended the First Christian Church in Sedan.
She is survived by her daughter, Katrina Phillips, Sedan, Kan., her companion, Terry Myers, Sedan, Kan., her mother, Mildred McPherson, Fairmount, Ga., one sister, Heather (McPherson) Blaze of Florida, Terry’s children, Michael Myers, Jennifer Pruett, and Lindsey Myers, six grandchildren, and many friends and family. She was preceded in death by her father, one sister, and one brother.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 15, at Ackarman Chapel.
The family has suggested memorials to the Robin McPherson Memorial Fund in care of the First National Bank of Sedan and the Chautauqua County Animal Shelter and can be left with the funeral home. Arrangements were under the direction of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan.
MR. ROBERT MCVICKERS
Word was received of the death of a former Sedan resident, Robert McVickers of Smith Center, who died Oct. 15 while visiting his sister in Rockford, Ill. Services and burial were held at Smith Center Oct. 18.
He was retired at the time of his death but was employed as project engineer with the watershed while residing in Sedan.
Survivors include his wife; four children; and a number of grandchildren.
