A Sudden Death last Friday Removed a Well Known Citizen
The death of Captain Sandy Lowe occurred at his home in the south part of Sedan last Friday morning. It was a great shock to the whole community as Mr. Lowe was apparently a well man until only a few minutes before his death. He had been troubled some but it was not thought dangerous until the morning of his death, when he came to the house and dropped into a chair. Mrs. Lowe, noticing he did not look right, sent for a Physician, but before one could arrive Mr. Lowe was dead.
The funeral services were held at the Baptist church Monday afternoon. The G. A. R. post, and I.O.O.F. lodge and the Rebekahs formed at the house at 1:30 and marched to the church. Rev. S. L Chase, formerly pastor of the M. E. Church in Sedan, made an appropriate address, after which a large procession followed the remains to Greenwood cemetery, where interment was made under the I.O.O.F, ritual.
Sandy Lowe was born in Saint Louis county, MO. August 12, 1828. He came to Chautauqua county about eighteen years ago and lived here continuously till about five years ago when he moved to Sedan a few months ago. His first wife died about eighteen years ago. He was married to Julia Jamieson, October 29, 1886. She survives him to mourn his loss. Nine children also survive him. He faithfully served his country during the war of the rebellion, gaining the rank of captain in the regular service and of colonel of the state troops. While sheriff of this county he was converted and united with the M. E. church, The faithful service he rendered to his country was no more marked than that which he rendered to Christ and to his church. Everyone knew him to love him. A true life as soldier, citizen and Christian was his, and his example will bear good in the lives of others.

Resolutions of condolence, Stone River Post No 74, G. A. R. upon the death of Sandy Lowe. Whereas, death has once more invaded our ranks and taken from our midst, Comrade Sandy Lowe, late lieutenant in company d, 7th Missouri volunteer infantry and whereas by his death we are forceably reminded that the old soldiers of the war of the rebellion are rapidly marching toward the eternal camping ground.
Be it therefore Resolved, that Comrade Lowe was known in life as an upright citizen of this community; a gallant soldier honest and faithful; a good comrade of the post and a kind and affectionate husband and parent. Resolved, that we extend our sympathy to his afflicted family and recommend then for consolation to Him who death all things well.
