He was born March 3, 1924 in Independence, KS to John and Pearl (Hazen) Freeman. The first twelve years of his life he resided in Independence and Wayside, Kansas. In 1936, he moved east to Chautauqua, KS, where he attended school until 1941. In August 1941, he moved back to Independence and graduated from Independence High School in 1942. While overseas in WWII, he was in the China, Burma & India Theatre and served later in the west field of Tinian. While serving his country, he was a member of the 25th Squadron, 40th Bomb Group, and 58th Bomb Wing of the 20th Air Force. After his honorable discharge in November of 1945, he went to work for Sinclair Oil.
On March 23, 1946, Bob married Mildred Potter at her parent's home in Chautauqua. Bob and Mildred lived in Chautauqua, where his dad had previously worked in the oil field from 1936 to 1941. Their children, Mark, Roger, Cindy and Cheryl attended Chautauqua Grade School and Sedan High School.
While living on the oil lease, Bob had many hobbies. He loved the outdoors, raised a big garden and loved to Quail and Duck hunt. In 1957, he bought a ski boat and many weekend hours were spent with their friends and children's friends skiing on Hulah Lake. Bob and Mildred also spent a lot of time attending basketball games, football games, concerts and numerous other school activities during their children's school years. After their children and their children's friends finished college and took jobs, they lost interest in water skiing. It was then, in 1970, when they moved to Sedan, that they acquired another skilled hobby, golfing. They took numerous trips to golf courses in different parts of the United States with their friends.

They also enjoyed taking several bus tours to other cities for the KC Royals baseball games.
However, this all changed when Bob learned about the Confederate Air Force and news of a B-29 flying. In 1984, he became a member of the B29/B-24 Squadron of the Confederate Air Force (CAF). The CAF is a flying museum dedicated to keeping WWII planes flying. The CAF, located at the Midland-Odessa Airport, is a first class museum with over 8,000 members from all over the U.S. and several foreign countries. Bob took on the job of tour director of the B-29/B-24 Squadron for years 1989-90-91, 1994-95 & 1997. Mildred joined the B-29/B-24 Squadron and CAF to help Bob with these responsibilities. They traveled from April to October during those years to airports for static displays and air shows. During the winter months, they scheduled air shows and then moved 'FiFi", currently the only flying B-29, and "Diamond Lil", B-24, every Monday to a different location. He dedicated the majority of his spare time to keeping "FiFi" in the air. After 1997, Bob engaged in his favorite hobby, feeding the birds.
Bob was a lifetime member of VFW.
