Survivors include the parents, Kirk and Juliann England, Haysville, Kansas; a brother, Austin Childers, Haysville, Kansas; a sister, Ashlynne Childers, Haysville, Kansas; Grandparents, Bob and Marylee England, Grove, Oklahoma, Robert and Leeann Everett, Haysville, Kansas, and Grandmother, Judy Doty, Elk City, Kansas; Great Grand parents, George and Vanita Steddum, Elk City, Kansas; and Great Grandmother, Vera Doty, Arkansas City, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her Grandfather, Paul M. Doty.
Memorials have been established with the Elk City Baptist Church, Elk City, Kansas 67344. All Faith Funeral Services was in charge of the arrangements.
MRS. ELIZABETH ENGLISH - Submitted by Ilene Mullendore Butler
Elizabeth English, 69, of Sedan, Kansas, died Thursday, December 21, 1995, at Cedar Vale Hospital, Cedar Vale, Kansas. She was born November 4, 1926, in Fall River, Kansas, to William Otis and Carrie Elizabeth (Deatherage) Storm. She was a homemaker, a member of the Pandora Club, and the Trinity Luteran Church.
On October 14, 1944, in Ocean Side, California, she and Homer Charles English were united in marriage. He preceded her in death on September 25, 1987.
Survivors include one son, Steven English of Sedan, Kansas; two daughters, Sharon McMahon of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Shelly Smith of Manhattan, Kansas, one brother, Carl Storm of Fritch, Texas; two sisters, Violet Kindle of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, and Mildred Nickles of Kaw City, Oklahoma; motherin-law, Ruth English of Sedan, Kansas; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 26, 1995, at 1:30 p.m., in the Graves-Baird Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in the Riley Cemetery, Monet, Kansas. Pastor Randy Gragg of the Caney Trinity Lutheran Church officiated. Graves-Baird Funeral Home, Sedan, was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in her name with the Trinity Luteran Church, Caney, Kansas.
MRS. RUTH ENGLISH
Ruth English, age 98, of Sedan died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, in the Pleasant Valley manor in Sedan.
She was born Sept. 4, 1904 in Cass, Ark. to Charles Richard and Emily (Markham) Tompkins. She grew up and attended school in Cass.
On March 14, 1922, she married Homer 0. English at Cass, Ark. Following their marriage, they lived in Oklahoma, where Mr. English worked for Phillips Petroleum Company and Mrs. English operated a store, cafe and gas station in Four Acres, Okla. In 1973, they moved to the Caney and Sedan area. After moving to this area, she operated a cafe in Peru for several years. Mr. English preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1987.
Mrs. English attended the Assembly of God Church in Caney.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Steve English, Sedan, Sharon McMahon, Muskogee, Okla., and Shelly Smith, Manhattan, Kan., one brother, Clayton Tompkins, Ozark, Ark., two sisters, Cleo, Ozark, Ark. and Eula, Tampa, Fla. and three great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, in the Ackarman Chapel in Sedan, with Rev. Mike Morris of the Assembly of God Church in Caney officiating. Burial will be in Kaw City Cemetery in Kaw City, Okla.
Friends may call on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 1-9 p.m. and on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 9-12 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.

MR. PEDRO ESCALANTE
Pedro Escalante, age 79, of Sedan, Kansas, formerly of Cedar Vale and Wichita, passed away Monday morning, April 2. 2007 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan.
He was born May 19, 1927 in Jaslisco, Mexico, where he grew up and attended school. He moved from Mexico when he was in his twenties to Wellington, Kan. He married Deliliah Hernandez. They later divorced. In the early 1980’s, he moved to Cedar Vale. He moved to the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan in 2005. where he lived until his death.
The family of Pedro Escalante would like to thank friends and staff from the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home and the Cedar Vale Manor. They greatly appreciate what they have done for their father.
He is survived by two sons, Christopher Escalante and his wife Terri of Wichita, and Gabriel of San Bernardino, Calif.; four daughters, Teresa Escalante of Wichita, Tina Phillips and Gina and her husband Danny Villa both of Wichita, Sonia and Joe Linsey also of Wichita; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 5, at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan, with Chaplain Mike Graham of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating.

MRS. BEULA H. ESCH
Beula H. Esch passed away on Monday, Jan. 6, 2003 at the Elk Manor Nursing Home in Moline, Kan. She was 95 years of age and a long time resident of the Moline area. Beula was born on Jan. 28, 1907, at Silverdale, Kan., to John C. and Lulu Leola (Matthews) Hankins. She graduated from high school in 1926 at Arkansas City. After completing Normal training at Southwestern College in Winfield, Beula taught school for several years.
On May 14, 1930, she married Frank S. Esch at Arkansas City and to this union was born two daughters, Phyllis and Juanita. She was a loving wife and mother, and dedicated her life to caring for her family. They made their home in Dexter, Kan., after they were married and, in 1942, Beula and her family moved to Cedar Vale where they lived for seven years. In 1949, they moved to a ranch south of Moline which is still owned by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 8, 1963.
Beula was a member of the Sew and Sew Club, the Chatter and Stitch Club, an Extension Home Unit and the 49ers Square Dance Club. She attended the Moline Christian Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Osbom and her husband Neal of Elk Falls and Juanita Hall and her husband Phil of Longmont, Colo.; a brother, Doyle Hankins and his wife Aletha of Arkansas City, five gràndchildrèn, Cheryl Dornesof Gridley, Frank Osborn and Fred Osborn, both of Joplin, Mo., Jim Hall of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Steve Hall of Keyes, Okla.; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Helen Speer and Gladys Hoge; and a grandson, Paul Hall.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at the Moline Christian Church with Pastor Gary Boles officiating. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winfield.
Memorials have been established with the Elk Manor Nursing Home and the Moline Christian Church. Contributions may be left with the funeral home. The funeral arrangements were made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Attended Funeral At Fall River Friday
Mrs. L. T. Morton accompanied Miss Betty Riggs and Mrs. V. B. Meadows of Niotaze, Mrs. Dean Webb and son Kenneth of Sedan to Fall River Friday and attended the funeral of Mrs. L. H. Eshbaugh, a cousin of Mrs. Morton.
MR. CHARLES E. EVANS
PERU - Charles Edward “Junior” Evans, 84, a longtime Peru resident, died Wednesday morning, June 23, 2004, at Pleasant Valley Skilled Nursing in Sedan.
He was born Nov. 28, 1919 at Peru to Isaac Edward and Maudie E. (Graham) Evans. He grew up in Peru, where he attended school, graduating from Peru High School in 1937.
On March 14, 1943, he married Marvel Katherine Jochim at Las Vegas, Nev. Following their marriage, they lived in California, where Mr. Evans worked construction building Davis Dam. In 1946, they moved to Peru, where Mr. Evans became a pumper in the oil fields for Little Nick Co., Denman Brothers Oil Co. and John M. Denman Oil Co. Mrs. Evans preceded him in death on June 27, 1981.
Mr. Evans attended the Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon K. Gunn, Las Vegas, Nev. and Linda L. Evans, Peru, Kan. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Wendell Evans, and one sister, Mary Louise Bond.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2004, in Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.

MR. HAROLD G. EVANS
Harold Gene Evans, age 81, of rural Wauneta, passed away, Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011 at his home.
He was born July 29, 1930 in Grenola to Earl and Bernice (Yates) Evans. He was raised in Chautauqua County and graduated from Sedan High School in the class of 1948.
On Dec. 31, 1948 he married Patsy Mattocks. They made their home in rural Chautauqua County where Gene worked as a mechanic for numerous years and also worked as a reserve for the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies. His wife of 62 years survives him.
He was a member of the Wauneta United Methodist Church. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, and especially loved his motorcycles.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Patsy of the home; one son; Jerry and wife Janice Mattocks of St. John, Kan; one sister, Barbara Allen of Elgin; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 19, 2011 at the Round Mound Cemetery in rural Wauneta with Reverend Jerry Bever of the Wauneta United Methodist Church officiating.
The family has suggested memorials to the Wauneta United Methodist Church and those remembrances can be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.

MR. RICHARD L. "DICK" EVANS
SEDAN - Richard L. “Dick” Evans, age 69, of Sedan passed away Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at his home in Sedan.
He was born July 29, 1937 in Chautauqua County to Ralph and Fanny (Camp) Evans. He attended Coldwater High School in Coldwater, Kan. He married Janet L. Burdett on March 15, 1959, in Wauneta, Kan. They made their home in the Chautauqua County area for many years. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for John M. Julie for 20 years retiring in 1979.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wauneta.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Evans of the home in Sedan; three sons, Richard A. Evans of Mulvane, Kan., N. Dean Evans of Towanda; Kan., and James A. Evans of Sedan; one sister, Betty Gandy of Wellington, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Fanny Evans.
Graveside services were held at 10 am., Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery northwest of Sedan with Reverend Jerry Bever officiating.
Friends called from noon to 5 p.m., Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
